Journal ArticleDOI
Factors associated with malaria microscopy diagnostic performance following a pilot quality-assurance programme in health facilities in malaria low-transmission areas of Kenya, 2014.
Fredrick Odhiambo,Ann M. Buff,Ann M. Buff,Collins Morang’a,Caroline M. Moseti,Jesca O Wesongah,Sara A. Lowther,Wences Arvelo,Tura Galgalo,Thomas O. Achia,Zeinab Gura Roka,Waqo Boru,Lily Chepkurui,Bernhards Ogutu,Bernhards Ogutu,Elizabeth Wanja +15 more
TL;DR: Microscopists who had recently completed refresher training and worked in a QA-pilot facility performed the best overall on microscopy performance measures, and the QA programme and formal microscopy refreshers training should be systematically implemented together to improve parasitological diagnosis of malaria by microscopy in Kenya.
Journal ArticleDOI
A competitive enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay for determination of chloramphenicol
Jesca O Wesongah,GA Murilla,Anastasia N. Guantai,C.T. Elliot,Terence L. Fodey,Andrew Cannavan +5 more
TL;DR: The assay was able to detect chloramphenicol concentrations in normal sheep serum for at least 1 week after intramuscular injection with the drug at a dose of 25 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) and can be used as a screening tool for chlorampshenicol use in animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Chemistry Profiles In Injection Heroin Users From Coastal Region, Kenya.
Tom Were,Jesca O Wesongah,Elly O. Munde,Collins Ouma,Titus M. Kahiga,Francisca Ongecha-Owuor,James Kiarie,Aabid Ahmed,Ernest P. Makokha,Valentine Budambula +9 more
TL;DR: Absolute ALt, albumin, globulin, and CRP measurements in combination with APRI, AST to ALT, album in to total protein and albumin to globulin indices may be useful laboratory markers for screening IHUs for initiating and monitoring treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum adiponectin in HIV-1 and hepatitis C virus mono- and co-infected Kenyan injection drug users
Eric M. Ndombi,Valentine Budambula,Mark Kilongosi Webale,Francis O. Musumba,Jesca O Wesongah,Erick Mibei,Aabid Ahmed,Raphael W. Lihana,Tom Were +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the relationship of total adiponectin levels with anthropometric indices of adiposity was examined in HIV mono-infected (anti-retroviral treatment, ART-naive, n=16 and -experienced, n =34); HCV mono-infected and hepatitis (HCV) injection drug users (IDUs) has not been elucidated.
Journal Article
Validation of a competitive chloramphenicol enzyme linked immunosorbent assay for determination of residues in ovine tissues.
TL;DR: A developed chloramphenicol enzyme linked immunosorbent assay for the determination of chlorampshenicol residues in ovine tissues is validated and enables the method to be used effectively as a screening tool for chloramphecol residues in livestock products especially in the liver, muscle and kidney.
