Deep learning models are efficient in learning the features that assist in understanding complex patterns precisely. This study proposed a computerized process of classifying skin disease through deep learning based MobileNet V2 and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM). The MobileNet V2 model proved to be efficient with a better accuracy that can work on lightweight computational devices. The proposed model is efficient in maintaining stateful information for precise predictions. A grey-level co-occurrence matrix is used for assessing the progress of diseased growth. The performance has been compared against other state-of-the-art models such as Fine-Tuned Neural Networks (FTNN), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Very Deep Convolutional Networks for Large-Scale Image Recognition developed by Visual Geometry Group (VGG), and convolutional neural network architecture that expanded with few changes. The HAM10000 dataset is used and the proposed method has outperformed other methods with more than 85% accuracy. Its robustness in recognizing the affected region much faster with almost 2× lesser computations than the conventional MobileNet model results in minimal computational efforts. Furthermore, a mobile application is designed for instant and proper action. It helps the patient and dermatologists identify the type of disease from the affected region's image at the initial stage of the skin disease. These findings suggest that the proposed system can help general practitioners efficiently and effectively diagnose skin conditions, thereby reducing further complications and morbidity.

Classification of Skin Disease Using Deep Learning Neural Networks with MobileNet V2 and LSTM

Deep learning is a branch of artificial intelligence. In recent years, with the advantages of automatic learning and feature extraction, it has been widely concerned by academic and industrial circles. It has been widely used in image and video processing, voice processing, and natural language processing. At the same time, it has also become a research hotspot in the field of agricultural plant protection, such as plant disease recognition and pest range assessment, etc. The application of deep learning in plant disease recognition can avoid the disadvantages caused by artificial selection of disease spot features, make plant disease feature extraction more objective, and improve the research efficiency and technology transformation speed. This review provides the research progress of deep learning technology in the field of crop leaf disease identification in recent years. In this paper, we present the current trends and challenges for the detection of plant leaf disease using deep learning and advanced imaging techniques. We hope that this work will be a valuable resource for researchers who study the detection of plant diseases and insect pests. At the same time, we also discussed some of the current challenges and problems that need to be resolved.

Plant Disease Detection and Classification by Deep Learning—A Review

Dense convolutional neural networks based multiclass plant disease detection and classification using leaf images

Crop diseases constitute a serious issue in agriculture, affecting both quality and quantity of agriculture production. Disease control has been a research object in many scientific and technologic domains. Technological advances in sensors, data storage, computing resources and artificial intelligence have shown enormous potential to control diseases effectively. A growing body of literature recognizes the importance of using data from different types of sensors and machine learning approaches to build models for detection, prediction, analysis, assessment, etc. However, the increasing number and diversity of research studies requires a literature review for further developments and contributions in this area. This paper reviews state-of-the-art machine learning methods that use different data sources, applied to plant disease detection. It lists traditional and deep learning methods associated with the main data acquisition modalities, namely IoT, ground imaging, unmanned aerial vehicle imaging and satellite imaging. In addition, this study examines the role of data fusion for ongoing research in the context of disease detection. It highlights the advantage of intelligent data fusion techniques, from heterogeneous data sources, to improve plant health status prediction and presents the main challenges facing this field. The study concludes with a discussion of several current issues and research trends.

Lightweight convolutional neural network model for field wheat ear disease identification

Alternaria leaf blotch, and rust are two common types of apple leaf diseases that severely affect apple yield. A timely and effective detection of apple leaf diseases is crucial for ensuring the healthy development of the apple industry. In general, these diseases are inspected by experienced experts one by one. This is a time-consuming task with unstable precision. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed a LOW-COST, STABLE, HIGH precision apple leaf diseases identification method. This is achieved by employing MobileNet model. Firstly, comparing with general deep learning model, it is a LOW-COST model because it can be easily deployed on mobile devices. Secondly, instead of experienced experts, everyone can finish the apple leaf diseases inspection STABLELY by the help of our algorithm. Thirdly, the precision of MobileNet is nearly the same with existing complicated deep learning models. Finally, in order to demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed method, several experiments have been carried out for apple leaf diseases identification. We have compared the efficiency and precision with the famous CNN models: i.e. ResNet152 and InceptionV3. Here, the apple disease datasets (including classes: Alternaria leaf blotch and rust leaf) were collected by the agriculture experts in Shaanxi Province, China.

What is already known about this topic? Airflow obstruction is the hallmark of many chronic respiratory diseases and may indicate the potential for the development of other progressive diseases. There are currently no representative studies of lung function in Beijing. An up-to-date estimation of the characteristics of lung function and airflow obstruction is thus needed. What is added by this report? The estimated prevalence of airflow obstruction was 14.68% in Beijing, 2017–2018. The values of vital capacity, forced vital capacity, and forced expiratory volume in the first second were 3.09 L, 2.66 L, 2.22 L, respectively. What are the implications for public health practice? Effective public health strategy for lung in Beijing should target older people, current or former smokers, and individuals who live in urban environments, have a low education level, exhibit a high smoking index, and/or have an abnormal body mass index.
