Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of intake swirl on the fuel/air mixing and combustion performance in a lateral swirl combustion system for direct injection diesel engines

TL;DR: In this paper, a single-cylinder diesel engine was evaluated under different swirl ratios to optimize the circumferential injection angle (CIA) and test the eventual combustion performance of the lateral swirl combustion system (LSCS).
Journal ArticleDOI

Combustion performance and fuel injection timing adaptability of a lateral swirl combustion system for direct injection diesel engines

TL;DR: In this article, the lateral swirl combustion system (LSCS) performance was compared with a widely-used TCD combustion system experimentally in a single-cylinder diesel engine, and the experimental results showed the LSCS exhibited better combustion performance and lower emissions compared to the TCDCS: the fuel consumption and soot emissions were decreased by 2.5-4.2
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of combustion chamber diameter on the performance and fuel–air mixing of a double swirl combustion system in a diesel engine

TL;DR: In this paper , the effects of combustion chamber diameter on the performance at various operations were explored and tested in a single-cylinder diesel engine at the maximum torque speed of 1800 rpm under various loads and various excess air coefficients (φ).
Journal ArticleDOI

Combustion performance and energy distributions in a new multi-swirl combustion system

TL;DR: In this paper , a new multi-swirl combustion system based on lateral swirl and TCD combustion chamber (MSCS-LT) was proposed to improve fuel-air mixing quality.
