Journal ArticleDOI
Increased dietary intake of omega-3-polyunsaturated fatty acids reduces pathological retinal angiogenesis.
Kip M. Connor,John Paul SanGiovanni,Chatarina Löfqvist,Chatarina Löfqvist,C. M. Aderman,Jing Chen,Akiko Higuchi,Song Hong,Elke Pravda,Sharon Majchrzak,Deborah Carper,Ann Hellström,Jing X. Kang,Emily Y. Chew,Norman Salem,Charles N. Serhan,Lois E.H. Smith +16 more
TL;DR: It is shown that increasing ω-3-PUFA tissue levels by dietary or genetic means decreased the avascular area of the retina by increasing vessel regrowth after injury, thereby reducing the hypoxic stimulus for neovascularization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantification of oxygen-induced retinopathy in the mouse: a model of vessel loss, vessel regrowth and pathological angiogenesis
Kip M. Connor,Nathan M. Krah,Roberta J. Dennison,C. M. Aderman,Jing Chen,Karen I. Guerin,Przemyslaw Sapieha,Andreas Stahl,Keirnan L. Willett,Lois E.H. Smith +9 more
TL;DR: This protocol describes standards for mouse size, sample size, retinal preparation, quantification of vascular loss, vascular regrowth, NV and neovascular regression in the mouse model of oxygen-induced retinopathy.
Journal ArticleDOI
A(2A) adenosine receptor deficiency attenuates brain injury induced by transient focal ischemia in mice
Jing Chen,Zhihong Huang,Jianya Ma,Jinmin Zhu,Rosario Moratalla,David G. Standaert,Michael A. Moskowitz,J. S. Fink,Michael A. Schwarzschild +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that A2A receptors play a prominent role in the development of ischemic injury within brain and demonstrate the potential for anatomical and functional neuroprotection against stroke by A 2A receptor antagonists.
Journal ArticleDOI
The mouse retina as an angiogenesis model.
Andreas Stahl,Kip M. Connor,Przemyslaw Sapieha,Jing Chen,Roberta J. Dennison,Nathan M. Krah,Molly R. Seaward,Keirnan L. Willett,C. M. Aderman,Karen I. Guerin,Jing Hua,Chatarina Löfqvist,Ann Hellström,Lois E.H. Smith +13 more
TL;DR: From the multitude of studies performed in the mouse retina, a selection of representative works is discussed in more detail regarding their role in advancing the understanding of both the ocular and general mechanisms of angiogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retinopathy of Prematurity
Jing Chen,Lois E.H. Smith +1 more
TL;DR: It is found that serum levels of IGF-1 in premature babies directly correlate with the severity of clinical ROP, and findings suggest that restoration of IGF -1 to normal levels might be useful in preventing ROP in preterm infants.
