Low-light images have low brightness and contrast, which presents a huge obstacle to computer vision tasks. Low-light image enhancement is challenging because multiple factors (such as brightness, contrast, artifacts, and noise) must be considered simultaneously. In this study, we propose a neural network—a progressive-recursive image enhancement network (PRIEN)—to enhance low-light images. The main idea is to use a recursive unit, composed of a recursive layer and a residual block, to repeatedly unfold the input image for feature extraction. Unlike in previous methods, in the proposed study, we directly input low-light images into the dual attention model for global feature extraction. Next, we use a combination of recurrent layers and residual blocks for local feature extraction. Finally, we output the enhanced image. Furthermore, we input the global feature map of dual attention into each stage in a progressive way. In the local feature extraction module, a recurrent layer shares depth features across stages. In addition, we perform recursive operations on a single residual block, significantly reducing the number of parameters while ensuring good network performance. Although the network structure is simple, it can produce good results for a range of low-light conditions. We conducted experiments on widely adopted datasets. The results demonstrate the advantages of our method compared with other methods, from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives.

Low-Light Image Enhancement via Progressive-Recursive Network

Although BaZr 0.8Y 0.2O 3-δ(BZY) possesses large bulk proton conductivity and excellent chemical stability, its poor sinterability and grain boundaries block proton conduction. In this work, the effect of Ca as a co-dopant and as a sintering aid (as CaO), on the sinterability, proton conductivity, and fuel cell performance of BZY was investigated. The addition of 4 mol% CaO significantly improved the BZY sinterability: BZY pellets with densities of 92.7% and 97.5% with respect to the theoretical density were obtained after sintering at 1500°C and 1600°C, respectively. The improved BZY sinterability by CaO addition resulted also in a large proton conductivity; at 600°C, the total conductivity of BZY-CaO was 2.14 × 10 -3 S/cm, in wet Ar. Anode-supported fuel cells with 25 μm-thick BZY-CaO electrolyte membranes were fabricated by a dual-layer co-firing technique. The peak power density of the fuel cell with a BZY-Ni/BZY-4CaO/BZY-LSCF (La 0.6Sr 0.4Fe 0.8Co 0.2O 3-δ) configuration was 141 mW/cm 2 at 700°C, several times larger than the reported values of BZY electrolyte membrane fuel cells sintered with the addition of CuO or ZnO, demonstrating promising features for practical fuel cell applications.

Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization-Based Fusion in YIQ and HSI Color Spaces for Underwater Image Enhancement

In order to restore image color and enhance contrast of remote sensing image without suffering from color cast and insufficient detail enhancement, a novel improved multi-scale retinex with color restoration (MSRCR) image enhancement algorithm based on Gaussian filtering and guided filtering was proposed in this paper. Firstly, multi-scale Gaussian filtering functions were used to deal with the original image to obtain the rough illumination components. Secondly, accurate illumination components were acquired by using the guided filtering functions. Then, combining with four-direction Sobel edge detector, a self-adaptive weight selection nonlinear image enhancement was carried out. Finally, a series of evaluate metrics such as mean, MSE, PSNR, contrast and information entropy were used to assess the enhancement algorithm. The results showed that the proposed algorithm can suppress effectively noise interference, enhance the image quality and restore image color effectively.

Fabrication and characterization of BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.2O3−δ based anode supported solid oxide fuel cells by tape casting combined with spray coating

Dense BaZr0.8Y0.2O3−δ (BZY) proton-conducting electrolyte membranes are successfully fabricated on NiO–BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.2O3−δ(NiO–BZCY) using tape casting combined with suspension spraying technique. The NiO–BZCY anode substrates were prepared by the tape-casting method and the BZY electrolyte membranes were prepared on the NiO-BZCY anodes by suspension spraying. The thermal decomposition of the anode green tape prepared by tape casting was investigated by thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis while the phase structure and the morphology of the anode/electrolyte bi-layers were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). No obvious reaction was found between NiO and BZCY in anode substrates and gas-tight BZY membranes were achieved after co-sintering at 1450∘C. With Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3−δ–Ce0.8Sm0.2O2−δ(SSC–SDC) as the composite cathode, a maximum power density of 121 mW cm−2 was obtained at 650∘C for the single cell with 23 μm thick BZY electrolyte. Resistances of the tested cell were investigated under open circuit conditions at different operating temperatures by impedance spectroscopy.
