Structural characterization of technical lignins for the production of adhesives: Application to lignosulfonate, kraft, soda-anthraquinone, organosolv and ethanol process lignins

TL;DR: In this article, the results of the functional analysis and molecular weight distribution (Mw, Mn, Mw/Mn) for all lignins were discussed in order to select a good lignin for adhesive production.
Journal ArticleDOI

Steam reforming model compounds of biomass gasification tars: conversion at different operating conditions and tendency towards coke formation

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of temperature and steam-to-carbon ratio on conversion, and the tendency towards coke formation were explored for each model compound and two commercial nickel-based catalysts, the UCI G90-C and the ICI 46-1, were evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analytical methods for determining functional groups in various technical lignins

TL;DR: In this paper, the analytical methods used were: gas chromatography, aminolysis, UV-spectroscopy, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy and oximating method, FTIR spectrograph, acid number determination, and non-aqueous and aqueous potentiometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synergic effects of biodiesel in the biodegradability of fossil-derived fuels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the CO2 evolution test to study the biodegradability of biodiesel and its mixtures with fossil diesel fuel and gasoline, showing that the synergic effect was positive in all the cases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Harvesting the microalgae Phaeodactylum tricornutum with polyaluminum chloride, aluminium sulphate, chitosan and alkalinity-induced flocculation

TL;DR: The results of the application of two conventional flocculants used in wastewater treatment, polyaluminium chloride and aluminium sulphate, are also presented in this paper, with chitosan being used as a natural flocating agent to improve possible contamination problems in the downstream process.
