Journal ArticleDOI

Identification and Characterization of a Novel Monoamine Transporter in the Human Brain

TL;DR: Cl cloning and characterization of a new human plasma membrane monoamine transporter, PMAT, are reported and demonstrate that PMAT may be a novel low affinity transporter for biogenic amines, which, under certain conditions, might supplement the role of the high affinity transporters in the brain.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mammalian nucleoside transporters

TL;DR: The structure, function, tissue distribution, and cellular localization of various cloned mammalian nucleoside transporters are reviewed and information on transporter interaction with various nucleosides drugs and analogs is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metformin transport by a newly cloned proton-stimulated organic cation transporter (plasma membrane monoamine transporter) expressed in human intestine.

TL;DR: The results suggest that PMAT transports metformin, is expressed in human intestine, and may play a role in the intestinal absorption of met formin and possibly other cationic drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction of organic cations with a newly identified plasma membrane monoamine transporter.

TL;DR: The interaction of PMAT with a series of structurally diverse organic cations using MDCK cells stably expressing human PMAT showed that PMAT interacts with many organic cATIONS that have heterogeneous chemical structures, and it was concluded thatPMAT can function as a polyspecific organic cation transporter, which may play a role inorganic cation transport in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI

Selective Transport of Monoamine Neurotransmitters by Human Plasma Membrane Monoamine Transporter and Organic Cation Transporter 3

TL;DR: The results suggest that hOCT3 represents a major uptake2 transporter for histamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine and may play a more important role in transporting these two neurotransmitters in the central nervous system.
