Journal ArticleDOI

Al- and Cr-rich chromitites from the Mayari-Baracoa ophiolitic belt (eastern Cuba); consequence of interaction between volatile-rich melts and peridotites in suprasubduction mantle

TL;DR: The Mayari-Baracoa belt is a part of the east-west-trending Cuban ophiolitic belt as discussed by the authors, which is composed of two large, chromite-rich massifs, the Mayari Cristal and Moa Baracoa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chromitites in ophiolites: How, where, when, why? Part II. The crystallization of chromitites

TL;DR: A review of previous work relevant to the formation of concentrations of chromite in peridotites from ophiolitic (s.l.) sequences highlights some of the key problems in understanding the complex processes involved as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-Cr and high-Al chromitites from the Sagua de Tánamo district, Mayarí-Cristal ophiolitic massif (eastern Cuba): Constraints on their origin from mineralogy and geochemistry of chromian spinel and platinum-group elements

TL;DR: In this article, a large number of chromitite bodies of variable sizes are hosted in dunite-harzburgite of the small (b3 km) mining district of Sagua de Tanamo, in the Mayari-Cristal ophiolitic massif, eastern of Cuba.
Journal ArticleDOI

Petrogenesis of highly depleted peridotites and gabbroic rocks from the Mayarí-Baracoa Ophiolitic Belt (Eastern Cuba).

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that peridotites are very refractory in terms of modal composition, whole rock major element and HREE contents implying that they are residues after high degrees (20-30%) of partial melting.
