Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of herpes simplex virus type 1 and varicella-zoster virus latency and reactivation

TL;DR: There is increasing evidence that HSV-1 and VZV latency is epigenetically regulated, and in vitro models that permit pathway analysis and identification of both epigenetic modulations and global transcriptional mechanisms hold much promise for the future understanding in this complex area.
Journal ArticleDOI

The herpes simplex virus 1 UL15 gene encodes two proteins and is required for cleavage of genomic viral DNA.

TL;DR: Viral DNA accumulating in cells infected with herpes simplex virus 1(mP)ts66.4 and maintained at the nonpermissive temperature was in an endless (concatemeric) form, and therefore UL15 is required for the cleavage of mature, unit-length molecules for packaging into capsids.
