The Gut-Brain Axis: How Microbiota and Host Inflammasome Influence Brain Physiology and Pathology.

TL;DR: The status of the knowledge and the open questions in the field focusing on the function of intestinal microbial metabolites or products on CNS cells during healthy and inflammatory conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s diseases, and also neuropsychiatric disorders are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbiota, diet and the gut-brain axis in multiple sclerosis and acute stroke.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors reviewed the current knowledge on the effect of diet and microbiota on the gut-brain axis in patients with two different central nervous system diseases, multiple sclerosis and stroke, and highlighted the open questions in the field that are important to address to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms by which diet can directly or indirectly affect the host via the microbiota.
