Edge current channels and chern numbers in the integer quantum hall effect

TL;DR: In this article, a quantization theorem for the edge currents is proven for discrete magnetic half-plane operators, and the edge channel number is a valid concept also in presence of disordered potential.
Journal ArticleDOI

Noncommutative geometry of tilings and gap labelling

TL;DR: In this paper, a noncommutative space and the corresponding C*-algebra are constructed for one-dimensional tilings and Cartesian products thereof, and the part of this image which is given by an invariant measure on the hull of the tiling is determined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Partial actions of groups

TL;DR: It is proved that each partial group action is the restriction of a universal global group action, and some applications of this result are described to group theory and the theory of E-unitary inverse semigroups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Simultaneous quantization of edge and bulk Hall conductivity

TL;DR: In this paper, the edge Hall conductivity was shown to be an integer multiple of e 2 /h which is almost surely independent of the choice of the disordered configuration, and its equality to the bulk Hall conductivities given by the Kubo-Chern formula follows from K-theoretic arguments.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Local Structure of Tilings and Their Integer Group of Coinvariants

TL;DR: In this paper, the local structure of a tiling is described in terms of a multiplicative structure on its pattern classes and the groupoid associated to the tiling was derived from this structure and its integer group of coinvariants is defined.
