Journal ArticleDOI
Transforming growth factor β-induced epithelial to mesenchymal transition requires the Ste20-like kinase SLK independently of its catalytic activity.
Jillian Conway,Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,Benjamin R. Pryce,Benjamin R. Pryce,John Abou-Hamad,John Abou-Hamad,Luc A. Sabourin,Luc A. Sabourin +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that SLK plays a novel role in TGFβ-induced EMT, independent of Smads, in a kinase activity-independent manner.
Journal ArticleDOI
Loss of the Ste20-like kinase induces a basal/stem-like phenotype in HER2-positive breast cancers.
Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,John Abou-Hamad,John Abou-Hamad,David P. Cook,David P. Cook,Benjamin R. Pryce,Benjamin R. Pryce,Jonathan J. Hodgins,Jonathan J. Hodgins,Cédrik Labrèche,Cédrik Labrèche,Pascale Robineau-Charette,Pascale Robineau-Charette,Christiano Tanese de Souza,John C. Bell,John C. Bell,Rebecca C. Auer,Rebecca C. Auer,Michele Ardolino,Michele Ardolino,Barbara C. Vanderhyden,Barbara C. Vanderhyden,Luc A. Sabourin,Luc A. Sabourin +24 more
TL;DR: It is shown that loss of SLK in a murine model of HER2/Neu-positive breast cancers significantly accelerates tumor onset and decreases overall survival, and mechanistic insight into the regulation of Sox10 expression in breast cancer is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Periostin gene expression in neu-positive breast cancer cells is regulated by a FGFR signaling cross talk with TGFβ/PI3K/AKT pathways.
Cédrik Labrèche,Cédrik Labrèche,David P. Cook,David P. Cook,John Abou-Hamad,John Abou-Hamad,Julia Pascoal,Benjamin R. Pryce,Benjamin R. Pryce,Benjamin R. Pryce,Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,Luc A. Sabourin,Luc A. Sabourin +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-regulation between FGFR, TGFβ, and PI3K/AKT pathways was shown to regulate Postn expression in breast cancer cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
AKT-mediated phosphorylation of Sox9 induces Sox10 transcription in a murine model of HER2-positive breast cancer.
Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,John Abou-Hamad,John Abou-Hamad,Julia Pascoal,Cédrik Labrèche,Cédrik Labrèche,Brennan Garland,Brennan Garland,Luc A. Sabourin,Luc A. Sabourin +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors showed that the Sox10 gene expression is dependent on a novel −7kb enhancer that harbors three SoxE binding sites in the regulatory region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Muscle-specific deletion of SLK/Stk2 enhances p38 activity and myogenesis in mdx mice
Benjamin R. Pryce,Benjamin R. Pryce,Cédrik Labrèche,Cédrik Labrèche,Dounia Hamoudi,John Abou-Hamad,John Abou-Hamad,Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,Khalid N. Al-Zahrani,Jonathan J. Hodgins,Jonathan J. Hodgins,Antoine Boulanger-Piette,Sabrina Bossé,Cindy Balog-Alvarez,Jérôme Frenette,Michele Ardolino,Michele Ardolino,Joe N. Kornegay,Luc A. Sabourin,Luc A. Sabourin +19 more
TL;DR: In vitro knockdown of the Ste20-like kinase, SLK, can partially restore myoblast differentiation downstream of TGFβ in a Smad2/3 independent manner and demonstrate that SLK downregulation can restore some aspects of disease progression in DMD.
