The evolution of the state of many systems modeled by linear partial diﬁerentialequations (PDEs) or linear delay-diﬁerential equations can be described by operatorsemigroups. The state of such a system is an element in an inﬂnite-dimensionalnormed space, whence the name \inﬂnite-dimensional linear system".The study of operator semigroups is a mature area of functional analysis, which isstill very active. The study of observation and control operators for such semigroupsis relatively more recent. These operators are needed to model the interactionof a system with the surrounding world via outputs or inputs. The main topicsof interest about observation and control operators are admissibility, observability,controllability, stabilizability and detectability. Observation and control operatorsare an essential ingredient of well-posed linear systems (or more generally systemnodes). Inthisbookwedealonlywithadmissibility, observabilityandcontrollability.We deal only with operator semigroups acting on Hilbert spaces.This book is meant to be an elementary introduction into the topics mentionedabove. By \elementary" we mean that we assume no prior knowledge of ﬂnite-dimensional control theory, and no prior knowledge of operator semigroups or ofunbounded operators. We introduce everything needed from these areas. Observation and Control for Operator Semigroups

The Decision Diffie-Hellman assumption (ddh) is a gold mine. It enables one to construct efficient cryptographic systems with strong security properties. In this paper we survey the recent applications of DDH as well as known results regarding its security. We describe some open problems in this area.

The Decision Diffie-Hellman Problem

Hilbert and Polya suggested that there might be a natural spectral interpretation of the zeroes of the Riemann Zeta function. While at the time there was little evidence for this, today the evidence is quite convincing. Firstly, there are the “function field” analogues, that is zeta functions of curves over finite fields and their generalizations. For these a spectral interpretation for their zeroes exists in terms of eigenvalues of Frobenius on cohomology. Secondly, the developments, both theoretical and numerical, on the local spacing distributions between the high zeroes of the zeta function and its generalizations give striking evidence for such a spectral connection. Moreover, the low-lying zeroes of various families of zeta functions follow laws for the eigenvalue distributions of members of the classical groups. In this paper we review these developments. In order to present the material fluently, we do not proceed in chronological order of discovery. Also, in concentrating entirely on the subject matter of the title, we are ignoring the standard body of important work that has been done on the zeta function and L-functions. 1.
