Infection and labor V. Prevalence, microbiology, and clinical significance of intraamniotic infection in women with preterm labor and intact membranes
Roberto Romero,Marina Sirtori,E. Oyarzun,Cecilia Avila,Moshe Mazor,Robert Callahan,Virginia Sabo,Apostolos P. Athanassiadis,John C. Hobbins +8 more
TL;DR: Amniotic fluid retrieved by amniocentesis from 264 patients with preterm labor and intact membranes admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital from Jan. 1, 1985, to July 31, 1988 had a higher incidence of respiratory distress syndrome and infectious complications than preterm neonates born after negative amniotics fluid cultures.
Journal ArticleDOI
An evaluation of two equations for predicting fetal weight by ultrasound.
TL;DR: An earlier unpublished table of estimated fetal weights from ultrasound measurements of abdominal circumference and biparietal diameter was reconsidered and it was found that E2 provides a better balance between the distribution of overestimations and underestimations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infection and labor. III. Interleukin-1: a signal for the onset of parturition.
Roberto Romero,Dan T. Brody,E. Oyarzun,Moshe Mazor,Ying King Wu,John C. Hobbins,Scott K. Durum +6 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that interleukin-1 may play a role in the initiation of preterm labor associated with intraamniotic infection is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
First-trimester maternal serum PAPP-A and free-beta subunit human chorionic gonadotropin concentrations and nuchal translucency are associated with obstetric complications: A population-based screening study (The FASTER Trial)
Lorraine Dugoff,John C. Hobbins,Fergal D. Malone,T. Flint Porter,David A. Luthy,Christine H. Comstock,Gary D.V. Hankins,Richard L. Berkowitz,Irwin R. Merkatz,Sabrina D. Craigo,Ilan E. Timor-Tritsch,Steven R. Carr,Honor M. Wolfe,John Vidaver,Mary E. D'Alton +14 more
TL;DR: Low pregnancy-associated plasma protein A levels in the first trimester were associated strongly with a number of adverse pregnancy outcomes, and low free-beta subunit human chorionic gonadotropin levels and large nuchal translucency were both associated with early fetal loss.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infection and labor. IV. Cachectin-tumor necrosis factor in the amniotic fluid of women with intraamniotic infection and preterm labor.
Roberto Romero,Kirk R. Manogue,Murray D. Mitchell,Ying King Wu,E. Oyarzun,John C. Hobbins,Anthony Cerami +6 more
TL;DR: The data support the concept that macrophage activation is involved in the onset of human parturition in the setting of infection, and it is proposed that the host (fetus and/or mother) signalsThe onset of parturitions through the secretion of inflammatory cytokines released in response to bacterial invasion.
