Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of a novel brain-derived microglial cell line isolated from neonatal rat brain

TL;DR: The results of this study indicate that HAPI cells possess the characteristics of microglia/brain macrophages, providing an alternative cell culture model for the study of microGlia/macrophage lineage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Functional comparison of plant inward-rectifier channels expressed in yeast

TL;DR: Patch-clamp analysis, directly in yeast, of the two channel proteins (Kat1 and Akt1) reveals both functional similarities and functional differences: similarities in selectivity and in normal gating kinetics; and differences in time-dependent effects of ion replacement.
Journal Article

The S. cerevisiae outwardly-rectifying potassium channel (DUK1) identifies a new family of channels with duplicated pore domains.

TL;DR: Additional sequences with the duplicate pore motif were found in C. elegans, suggesting that these proteins represent a novel structural family of potassium channel proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Parkin suppresses wild-type α-synuclein-induced toxicity in SHSY-5Y cells

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that parkin suppresses toxicity induced by mutant (A53T) and wt alphaS, and the appearance of higher molecular weight alphaS-immunoreactive bands by Western blot analysis, consistent with a protective role for parkin.
