Shock absorbing devices utilize rheopexic fluid contained in a deformable sealed chamber which is subjected to external shock forces. Upon application of the shock forces to the deformable sealed chamber, the rheopexic fluid filled therein is exerted with shear stress which causes the rheopexic fluid to increase its consistency and shock absorbent characteristics as a function of increasing shear stresses applied thereto. Additionally, when used in an application wherein the device is placed against a body part of a user, the rheopexic material "molds" itself to the body portion of the user. When left at rest, the rheopexic material returns to its initial fluid, low-consistency state.

A condom having a plurality of deformable sealed chambers along at least a portion of the length thereof, rheopexic fluid being filled in the deformable sealed chambers. When the chambers are deformed during use of the condom, shear stress is applied to the rheopexic fluid due to deformation of the sealed chambers to cause the rheopexic fluid to increase its consistency as a function of increasing shear stress applied thereto, thereby providing a stiffening effect to the condom.

Shoes and shoe sole assemblies and associated methods of manufacture are disclosed herein. One aspect of the invention is directed toward a shoe and shoe sole assembly made of a non-linearly viscous, SEBS block copolymer-based material that becomes more resilient as more energy is applied. The shoe and shoe sole assembly is configured with a heel and forefoot insert configured to fit within a recess in a midsole. In other embodiments, the non-linearly viscous, SEBS block copolymer-based material is mixed with at least one other polymer in a foam. The midsole is formed with a heel impact region and a forefoot region made of the foam.
