Fluid Mechanics: Fundamentals and Applications

TL;DR: This chapter discusses the development of flow systems for EES and some of the techniques used to develop these systems are currently used in the oil and gas industry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differential effect of steady versus oscillating flow on bone cells

TL;DR: The hypothesis that the response of bone cells to fluid flow is dependent on chemotransport effects is support by exposing osteoblast-like hFOB 1.19 cells to precisely controlled dynamic fluid flow profiles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Large structure in the far wakes of two-dimensional bluff bodies

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used smoke-wire flow visualization and hot-wire anemometry to study near and far wakes of two-dimensional bluff bodies and found that the far wake structure does not depend directly on the scale or frequency of Karman vortices shed from the cylinder.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanically stimulated osteocytes regulate osteoblastic activity via gap junctions

TL;DR: A novel osteocyte-osteoblast coculture model is developed that mimics in vivo systems by permitting osteocytes to physiological levels of fluid shear while shielding osteoblasts from it and shows that the ability to mediate osteoblastic alkaline phosphatase levels in response to the application of fluidShear is a phenomena unique to osteocytes and is not reproduced by other mesenchymal cell types.
