Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of partial ileal bypass surgery on mortality and morbidity from coronary heart disease in patients with hypercholesterolemia. Report of the Program on the Surgical Control of the Hyperlipidemias (POSCH)
Henry Buchwald,Richard L. Varco,John P. Matts,John M. Long,Laurie L. Fitch,Gilbert S. Campbell,Malcolm B. Pearce,Albert E. Yellin,W. Allan Edmiston,Robert D. Smink,Henry S. Sawin,Christian T. Campos,Betty J. Hansen,Naip Tuna,James N. Karnegis,Miguel E. Sanmarco,Kurt Amplatz,W R Castaneda-Zuniga,David W. Hunter,Joe K. Bissett,Frederic J. Weber,James W. Stevenson,Arthur S. Leon,Thomas C. Chalmers +23 more
TL;DR: The Program on the Surgical Control of the Hyperlipidemias (POSCH) randomized clinical trial was designed to test whether cholesterol lowering induced by the partial ileal bypass operation would favorably affect overall mortality or mortality due to coronary heart disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Consistency of Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy Predicts Biologic Outcomes for Human Immunodeficiency Virus—Infected Persons in Clinical Trials
TL;DR: Long-term antiretroviral adherence patterns and their impact on biologic outcomes for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected participants in 2 randomized, multicenter clinical trials were prospectively studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quality of life in HIV-infected individuals receiving antiretroviral therapy is related to adherence.
Sharon B. Mannheimer,John P. Matts,Edward E. Telzak,Margaret A. Chesney,Carroll Child,Albert W. Wu,Gerald Friedland +6 more
TL;DR: In this analysis, ART adherence was associated with improved QoL, particularly if adherence was sustained, and those with at least 80% ART adherence had smaller gains inQoL at 12 months when compared to baseline, while those with <80% adherence had worsening of QoG.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomization in clinical trials: conclusions and recommendations.
TL;DR: The statistical properties of simple (complete) randomization, permuted-block (or simply blocked)randomization, and the urn adaptive biased-coin randomization are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variation of Chest Radiographic Patterns in Pulmonary Tuberculosis by Degree of Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Related Immunosuppression
David C. Perlman,Wafaa El-Sadr,Eileen T. Nelson,John P. Matts,Edward E. Telzak,Nadint Salomon,Keith Chirgwin,Richard Hafner +7 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates associations of certain CXR findings with HIV disease stage and knowledge of the degree of immunosuppression is important when evaluating C XR findings in HIV-infected patients.
