Journal ArticleDOI

Processing of cellular ceramics by foaming and in situ polymerisation of organic monomers

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a new processing route for fabricating highly porous ceramics based on the generation of a foam from an aqueous suspension of ceramic powder and the subsequent stabilisation of the structure by in situ polymerisation of organic monomers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Production of porous hydroxyapatite by the gel-casting of foams and cytotoxic evaluation.

TL;DR: In vitro test of biological evaluation revealed that the original purity of the biomedical-grade hydroxyapatite powder was affected neither through processing nor by the employed reagents, indicating strong gelled bodies with up to 90% porosity that can withstand machining in the green state.
Journal ArticleDOI

Additive manufacturing of advanced ceramic materials

TL;DR: A detailed review of the current state-of-the-art in additive manufacturing of advanced ceramics can be found in this article, with an emphasis on reported results in terms of final density, surface finish and mechanical properties.
Book ChapterDOI

UHTC composites for hypersonic applications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a hypersonic vehicle that can take off from an airport, fly through the atmosphere, and travel to the other side of the earth at high speeds, and then return through the same or another airport.
Journal ArticleDOI

Selection, processing, properties and applications of ultra-high temperature ceramic matrix composites, UHTCMCs – a review

TL;DR: Composites are, in general, a rapidly evolving and growing technical field with a very wide range of applications across the aerospace, defence, energy, medical and transport sectors as a result of...
