Gapless quantum excitations from an icelike splayed ferromagnetic ground state in stoichiometric Yb 2 Ti 2 O 7

TL;DR: The ground state of the quantum spin ice candidate magnet Yb2Ti2O7 is known to be sensitive to weak disorder at the similar to 1% level which occurs in single crystals grown from the melt.
Journal ArticleDOI

Neutron spectroscopic study of crystalline electric field excitations in stoichiometric and lightly stuffed Yb 2 Ti 2 O 7

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used time-of-flight neutron spectroscopy to determine the crystalline electric field (CEF) Hamiltonian, eigenvalues and eigenvectors appropriate to the $J=7/2 {\mathrm{Yb}}^{3+}$ ion in the candidate quantum spin ice pyrochlore magnet.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental Insights into Ground State Selection of Quantum XY Pyrochlores

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an experimental summary of the ground state properties of the XY pyrochlores, including evidence that they are strongly influenced by phase competition, and empirically demonstrate the signatures for phase competition in a frustrated magnet: multiple heat capacity anomalies, suppressed $T_N$ or$T_C$, sample and pressure dependent ground states, and unconventional spin dynamics.
