Journal ArticleDOI
Predictors of morbidity and mortality after the first episode of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in liver cirrhosis
TL;DR: The first episode of GI bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis is associated with high morbidity and mortality, and Renal failure, rebleeding, hepatocellular carcinoma, and hepatic encephalopathy were independent risk factors for early death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Value of the critical flicker frequency in patients with minimal hepatic encephalopathy
Manuel Romero-Gómez,Juan Córdoba,Rodrigo Jover,Juan A. del Olmo,Marta Ramírez,Ramón Rey,Enrique de Madaria,Carmina Montoliu,D. Núñez,Montse Flavià,José M. Rodrigo,Vicente Felipo +11 more
TL;DR: CFF is a simple, reliable, and accurate method for the diagnosis of MHE, not influenced by age or education and could predict the development of overt HE.
Journal ArticleDOI
IL-6 and IL-18 in blood may discriminate cirrhotic patients with and without minimal hepatic encephalopathy.
Carmina Montoliu,Blanca Piedrafita,Miguel A. Serra,Juan A. del Olmo,Amparo Urios,José M. Rodrigo,Vicente Felipo +6 more
TL;DR: Assessing whether there is a correlation between the alterations in parameters reflecting inflammation, hyperammonemia, and the presence of MHE found that inflammation-associated alterations related with IL-6 and IL-18 may contribute to MHE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk Factors for Nonhepatic Surgery in Patients with Cirrhosis
Juan A. del Olmo,Blas Flor-Lorente,Blas Flor-Civera,F Rodríguez,Miguel A. Serra,A. Escudero,Salvador Lledó,José M. Rodrigo +7 more
TL;DR: Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative variables associated with 30-day mortality and morbidity were assessed by univariate and multivariate analyses and the need for transfusions, prothrombin time, and Child-Pugh score were significantly associated with postoperative liver decompensation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondrial oxidative stress and CD95 ligand: a dual mechanism for hepatocyte apoptosis in chronic alcoholism.
Juan B. Miñana,L Gómez-Cambronero,Ana Lloret,Federico V. Pallardó,Juan A. del Olmo,A. Escudero,José M. Rodrigo,Antonio Pellíin,Juan R. Viña,Jose Viña,Juan Sastre +10 more
