Supine body position as a risk factor for nosocomial pneumonia in mechanically ventilated patients: a randomised trial
Mitra B. Drakulovic,Antoni Torres,Torsten T. Bauer,Jose María Nicolás,Santiago Nogué,Miquel Ferrer +5 more
TL;DR: The semirecumbent body position reduces frequency and risk of nosocomial pneumonia, especially in patients who receive enteral nutrition, especially for patients receivingEnteral nutrition in the supine body position.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence of co-infections and superinfections in hospitalized patients with COVID-19: a retrospective cohort study.
Carolina Garcia-Vidal,Gemma Sanjuan,Estela Moreno-García,Pedro Puerta-Alcalde,Nicole Garcia-Pouton,Mariana Chumbita,Mariana J. Fernandez-Pittol,Cristina Pitart,Alexy Inciarte,Marta Bodro,Laura Morata,Juan Ambrosioni,Ignacio Grafia,Fernanda Meira,Irene Macaya,Celia Cardozo,Climent Casals,Adrián Téllez,Pedro Castro,Francesc Marco,Felipe García,Josep Mensa,José Antonio Martínez,Alex Soriano,Verónica Rico,Marta Hernández-Meneses,Daiana Agüero,Berta Torres,Ana González,Lorena de la Mora,Jhon Rojas,Laura Linares,Berta Fidalgo,Natalia Rodríguez,David Nicolás,Laia Albiach,Jose Muñoz,Alex Almuedo,Daniel Camprubí,M. A. Marcos,Catia Cilloniz,Sara Fernández,Jose María Nicolás,Antoni Torres +43 more
TL;DR: The burden, epidemiology and outcomes of co-infections and superinfections occurring in hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) could prove essential in defining the role of empiric antimicrobial therapy or stewardship strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bacterial colonization patterns in mechanically ventilated patients with traumatic and medical head injury. Incidence, risk factors, and association with ventilator-associated pneumonia.
Santiago Ewig,Antoni Torres,Mustafa El-Ebiary,N. Fabregas,Carmen Hernandez,Julia Valls González,Jose María Nicolás,Luis Soto +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that patients with head injury are colonized in the airways mainly by Group I pathogens early in the evolution of illness, and the upper airways represent the main reservoir for subsequent lower airway colonization with group I pathogens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Different effects of red wine and gin consumption on inflammatory biomarkers of atherosclerosis: a prospective randomized crossover trial. Effects of wine on inflammatory markers.
Ramon Estruch,Emilio Sacanella,Eva Badia,Emilia Antúnez,Jose María Nicolás,Joaquim Fernández-Solà,Domenico Rotilio,Giovanni de Gaetano,Emanuel Rubin,Alvaro Urbano-Márquez +9 more
TL;DR: Both wine and gin showed anti-inflammatory effects by reducing plasma fibrinogen and IL-1alpha levels, however, wine had the additional effect of decreasing hs-CRP, as well as monocyte and endothelial adhesion molecules.
Journal ArticleDOI
Down-regulation of adhesion molecules and other inflammatory biomarkers after moderate wine consumption in healthy women: a randomized trial
Emilio Sacanella,Mónica Vázquez-Agell,Mari Pau Mena,Emilia Antúnez,Joaquim Fernández-Solà,Jose María Nicolás,Rosa M. Lamuela-Raventós,Emilio Ros,Ramon Estruch +8 more
TL;DR: Moderate wine consumption is associated with beneficial effects on various inflammatory pathways related to endothelial activation in women, and probably because of its higher polyphenol content, red wine shows superior antiinflammatory effects than does white wine.
