Rapid relaxation of an axisymmetric vortex

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that a two-dimensional axisymmetric large Reynolds number (Re) monopole when perturbed will return to an axismmetric state on a time scale (Re 1/3) that is much faster than the viscous evolution time scale.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quasi-steady monopole and tripole attractors for relaxing vortices

TL;DR: In this article, the decay rate of disturbances to asymptotic vortical structures was measured in some rotating or translating frame, where streamlines and lines of constant vorticity correspond in a constant translating frame.
Journal ArticleDOI

Distortion and Evolution of a Localized Vortex in an Irrotational Flow

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the interaction of an axisymmetric vortex monopole, such as a Lamb vortex, with a background irrotational flow and showed that a large amplitude, O(Re 1/3), distortion results when the monopole is forced at its resonant frequency.
