Journal ArticleDOI
Mortality in rheumatoid arthritis. Increased in the early course of disease, in ischaemic heart disease and in pulmonary fibrosis
TL;DR: There was a modest increase in mortality in RA, mainly in the first 7 yrs, but treatment-related deaths were low, and risk factors included less favourable socio-economic status, markers of disease severity and diminished function within the first year.
Journal ArticleDOI
How does functional disability in early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affect patients and their lives? Results of 5 years of follow-up in 732 patients from the Early RA Study (ERAS)
Antony R. Young,Josh Dixey,N Cox,P Davies,Joe Devlin,Paul Emery,Steve Gallivan,A Gough,David James,P. Prouse,Peter Williams,J Winfield +11 more
TL;DR: Clinical profiles of RA patients treated with conventional drug therapy over 5 yr showed that a small proportion of patients do badly functionally and in terms of life events, whereas around 40% do relatively well.
Journal ArticleDOI
Which patients stop working because of rheumatoid arthritis? Results of five years' follow up in 732 patients from the Early RA Study (ERAS)
Adam Young,Josh Dixey,Elena Kulinskaya,N Cox,P Davies,J. Devlin,Paul Emery,A Gough,D. James,P. Prouse,Peter Williams,J Winfield +11 more
TL;DR: Nearly half of the patients with RA were in paid employment at onset, work disability was an adverse outcome for a third of these patients by five years, and manual work and high baseline HAQ were important predictors for this.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interstitial lung disease has a poor prognosis in rheumatoid arthritis: results from an inception cohort
Gouri Koduri,Sam Norton,Adam Young,Nigel Cox,P Davies,Joe Devlin,Josh Dixey,A Gough,P. Prouse,J Winfield,Peter Williams +10 more
TL;DR: RA-ILD is an important and early feature of RA, related to disease activity and has a poor prognosis, and further studies are required to determine whether screening for pulmonary disease would identify patients at an earlier stage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutations in ANKH Cause Chondrocalcinosis
Adrian Pendleton,Michelle D. Johnson,Anne E. Hughes,Kyle A. Gurley,Andrew M. Ho,Michael Doherty,Josh Dixey,Pierre Gillet,Damien Loeuille,Rodney McGrath,Antonio J. Reginato,Rita Shiang,Gary Wright,Patrick Netter,Charlene J. Williams,David M. Kingsley +15 more
TL;DR: Increased ANK activity may explain the different types of crystals commonly deposited in human CCAL2 families and mutant mice and may provide a useful pharmacological target for treating some forms of human CC.
