Conductance Switching in Single Molecules Through Conformational Changes

TL;DR: Over time the conductance switching of single and bundled phenylene ethynylene oligomers isolated in matrices of alkanethiolate monolayers is tracked, concluding that the switching is a result of conformational changes in the molecules or bundles, rather than electrostatic effects of charge transfer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relative Conductances of Alkaneselenolate and Alkanethiolate Monolayers on Au{111}

TL;DR: Simultaneously acquired apparent tunneling barrier height (ATBH) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) images reveal that alkanethiolate molecules have a lower barrier to tunneling, and therefore a higher conductance than alkaneselenolates of the same alkyl chain length.
Journal ArticleDOI

Self-Assembly, Characterization, and Chemical Stability of Isocyanide-Bound Molecular Wire Monolayers on Gold and Palladium Surfaces

TL;DR: Self-assembled monolayers of the isocyano derivative of 4,4'-di(phenylene-ethynylene)benzene, a member of the "OPE" family of "molecular wires" of current interest in molecular electronics, have been prepared on smooth, textured films of Au and Pd, showing significant chemical instability when exposed to typical ambient conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ordered Local Domain Structures of Decaneselenolate and Dodecaneselenolate Monolayers on Au{111}

TL;DR: In this paper, a linear missing row structure was found in the (√3 × 3 √3)R30° unit cell of the self-assembled monolayers on Au{111} in high-coverage adsorbate phases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optical Characterization of Oligo(phenylene−ethynylene) Self-Assembled Monolayers on Gold

TL;DR: Vibrationally resonant sum-frequency generation (VR-SFG) and spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) have been used to characterize self-assembled monolayer films of unsubstituted and mononitro-substitized oligo(phenylene−ethynylene) molecules on vapor-deposited Au substrates as discussed by the authors.
