Journal ArticleDOI

Knowledge and attitudes about sports-related dental injuries and mouthguard use in young athletes in four different contact sports-water polo, karate, taekwondo and handball.

TL;DR: It would be beneficial to make wearing a mouthguard mandatory in all high-risk sports, as well as in those with medium-risk for dental injuries, because handball and water polo had similarly high occurrence of dental trauma as karate, a high- risk martial art sport.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sympathetic nervous system activation and heart failure: Current state of evidence and the pathophysiology in the light of novel biomarkers

TL;DR: Key pathophysiological mechanisms of SNS derangement in HF are highlighted and integrative and up-to-date overview of diagnostic modalities such as SNS imaging methods and novel laboratory biomarkers that could aid in the assessment of the degree of S NS activation and provide reliable prognostic information among patients with HF are placed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adropin and Inflammation Biomarker Levels in Male Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Link With Glucose Metabolism and Sleep Parameters.

TL;DR: Plasmaadropin concentrations significantly correlate with indices of disease severity in patients with OSA, suggesting that adropin potentially plays an important role in the complex pathophysiology of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morning cortisol levels and glucose metabolism parameters in moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea patients

TL;DR: It was shown that morning plasma cortisol levels measured at 8 a.m. were significantly lower in severe OSA patients than those in moderate OSA group and controls, and a negative correlation with AHI and oxygen desaturation index was found.
Journal ArticleDOI

Serum Catestatin Levels and Arterial Stiffness Parameters Are Increased in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

TL;DR: Serum CST levels were significantly higher in IBD patients compared to controls and an independent positive correlation of CST with PWV existed, suggesting that CST could have a role in the complex pathophysiology of IBD and its cardiovascular complications.
