In-situ diffusion of HTO, 22Na+, Cs+ and I- in Opalinus Clay at the Mont Terri underground rock laboratory
Luc R. Van Loon,Paul Wersin,Josep M. Soler,Jost Eikenberg,Thomas Gimmi,P. Hernán,S. Dewonck,S. Savoye +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the diffusion properties of Opalinus Clay were studied in the underground research laboratory at Mont Terri (Canton Jura, Switzerland) and the results were compared with diffusion data measured in the laboratory on small-scale samples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determination of 228Ra, 226Ra and 224Ra in natural water via adsorption on MnO2-coated discs.
TL;DR: A fast procedure based on sorption of Ra on MnO2 coated polyamide discs is presented for determination of radium isotopes in aqueous samples, sufficiently sensitive to allow the investigation of Ra isotope relationships in aquifers at typical environmental levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diffusion of HTO, Br−, I−, Cs+, 85Sr2+ and 60Co2+ in a clay formation: Results and modelling from an in situ experiment in Opalinus Clay
Paul Wersin,Josep M. Soler,L.R. Van Loon,Jost Eikenberg,Bart Baeyens,Daniel Grolimund,Thomas Gimmi,S. Dewonck +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the results of a multi-tracer in situ migration test performed in the Opalinus Clay formation in the Mont Terri underground rock laboratory (Switzerland) is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
The MEGAPIE-TEST project: Supporting research and lessons learned in first-of-a-kind spallation target technology
C. Fazio,F. Gröschel,Werner Wagner,Knud Thomsen,Brian L. Smith,Robert Stieglitz,L. Zanini,Arnaud Guertin,A. Cadiou,J. Henry,Pietro Agostini,Y. Dai,H. Heyck,S. Dementjev,S. Panebianco,A. TL;DR: The megawatt pilot experiment (MEGAPIE) has been launched by six European institutions (PSI, FZK, CEA, SCK-CEN, ENEA and CNRS), JAEA (Japan), DOE (US) and KAERI (Korea) with the aim to carry out an experiment, in the SINQ target location at PSI (Switzerland), to demonstrate the safe operation of a liquid metal (lead-bismuth eutectic, LBE) spallation target hit by a ∼1
Journal ArticleDOI
A high-resolution abrasive method for determining diffusion profiles of sorbing radionuclides in dense argillaceous rocks.
L.R. Van Loon,Jost Eikenberg +1 more
TL;DR: Comparison of the data obtained for the weakly sorbing (22)Na(+) with those from earlier through-diffusion experiments showed that there is good agreement between the two methods, which offers an excellent alternative for measuring the diffusion properties of strongly sorbing tracers in dense argillaceous rocks.
