Journal ArticleDOI

Reduction of the Calcium Leaching Rate of Cement Paste by Addition of Silica Nanoparticles

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors showed that the addition of small amounts of silica nanoparticles to the cement paste can induce a reduction in the degradation process of calcium leaching, which is a degradation process that consists in the progressive dissolution of the cement mixture as a consequence of the migration of the calcium ions to the aggressive solution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Atomic force microscopy and nanoindentation of cement pastes with nanotube dispersions

TL;DR: In this article, an efficient cement-based composite with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was proposed to improve the mechanical properties of cement pastes by the addition of CNTs, giving rise to a new and higher-performance composite material.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative Study of the Effects of Microsilica and Nanosilica in Concrete

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the effects of adding silica fume and nanosilica to concrete and provided a better understanding of the changes in the concrete nanostructure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis and characterization of epoxy encapsulating silica microcapsules and amine functionalized silica nanoparticles for development of an innovative self-healing concrete

TL;DR: In this paper, a self-healing system for smart cementitious composites is presented, which is based on the use of silica shell microcapsules to improve the durability and compatibility with the cement and from functionalized nanosilica to obtain an amine functionalized cementitious matrix.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of addition of silica- and amine functionalized silica-nanoparticles on the microstructure of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel.

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of adding nano-silica (SiO2, Nyasil™) and aminopropyl (-(CH2)3-NH2) functionalized silica nanoparticles (Stoga) during the synthesis of calcium-silicate-hydrate (C-S-H gel) was investigated.
