Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of the cytotoxicity of β-cyclodextrin derivatives: Evidence for the role of cholesterol extraction
Tamás Kiss,Ferenc Fenyvesi,Ildikó Bácskay,Judit Váradi,Éva Fenyvesi,Róbert Iványi,Lajos Szente,Arpad Tosaki,Miklós Vecsernyés +8 more
TL;DR: The correlation between the cytotoxic effect, hemolytic activity and the cholesterol complexation attributes of beta-CD derivatives is demonstrated and it is proposed that cholesterol-solubilizing properties can be a predictive factor for beta- CD cell toxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of cytotoxicity of surfactants used in self-micro emulsifying drug delivery systems and their effects on paracellular transport in Caco-2 cell monolayer.
Zoltán Ujhelyi,Ferenc Fenyvesi,Judit Váradi,Pálma Fehér,Tímea Kiss,Szilvia Veszelka,Mária A. Deli,Miklós Vecsernyés,Ildikó Bácskay +8 more
TL;DR: It could be concluded that polyethylene glycol ester-type tensides were able to enhance the paracellular permeability by the redistribution of junctional proteins, and may ensure useful data for selection of suitable tensides, co-tensides and tenside mixtures for SMEDDS formulations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Protective mechanisms of resveratrol against ischemia-reperfusion-induced damage in hearts obtained from Zucker obese rats: the role of GLUT-4 and endothelin.
Istvan Lekli,Gergo Szabo,Bela Juhasz,Samarjit Das,Samarjit Das,Manika Das,Edit Varga,Levente Szendrei,Rudolf Gesztelyi,Judit Váradi,Istvan Bak,Dipak K. Das,Arpad Tosaki +12 more
TL;DR: Resveratrol increased GLUT-4 expression and reduced endothelin expression and cardiac apoptosis in ischemic-reperfused hearts in the presence or absence of glucose intake in Zucker obese rats.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cyclodextrins in Drug Delivery Systems and Their Effects on Biological Barriers
Ádám Haimhoffer,Ágnes Rusznyák,Katalin Réti-Nagy,Gábor Vasvári,Judit Váradi,Miklós Vecsernyés,Ildikó Bácskay,Pálma Fehér,Zoltán Ujhelyi,Ferenc Fenyvesi +9 more
TL;DR: The most important properties ofcyclodextrins and cyclodextrin-based drug delivery systems are summarized with special focus on their biological activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
P-glycoprotein inhibition by membrane cholesterol modulation.
Ferenc Fenyvesi,Éva Fenyvesi,Lajos Szente,Katalin Goda,Zsolt Bacsó,Ildikó Bácskay,Judit Váradi,Tímea Kiss,Éva D. Molnár,Tamás Janáky,Gábor Szabó,Miklós Vecsernyés +11 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that Pgp inhibition by cyclodextrin treatments arises through modulation of its membrane microenvironment, rather than as a result of concomitant cytotoxicity.
