Journal ArticleDOI
Venous air embolism during semi-sitting craniotomy evokes thrombocytopenia.
TL;DR: The hypothesis that venous air embolism during semi‐sitting craniotomy induces thrombocytopenia in humans is tested and normalising platelet count to haematocrit did not alter the results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extracellular vesicles isolated from patients undergoing remote ischemic preconditioning decrease hypoxia-evoked apoptosis of cardiomyoblasts after isoflurane but not propofol exposure.
Frederik Abel,Florian Murke,Morten Gaida,Nicolas Garnier,Crista Ochsenfarth,Carsten Theiss,Matthias Thielmann,Petra Kleinbongard,Bernd Giebel,Jürgen Peters,Ulrich H. Frey,Ulrich H. Frey +11 more
TL;DR: Vesicles isolated from patients undergoing RIPC under isoflurane anesthesia protect H9c2 cardiomyoblasts against hypoxia-evoked apoptosis and this effect is abrogated by propofol, which supports a role of human RIPC-generated EVs in cardioprotection and underlines prop ofol as a possible confounder inRIPC-signaling mediated by EVs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proteomics/phosphoproteomics of left ventricular biopsies from patients with surgical coronary revascularization and pigs with coronary occlusion/reperfusion: remote ischemic preconditioning
Nilgün Gedik,Marcus Krüger,Matthias Thielmann,Eva Kottenberg,Andreas Skyschally,Ulrich H. Frey,Elke Cario,Jürgen Peters,Heinz Jakob,Gerd Heusch,Petra Kleinbongard +10 more
TL;DR: In left ventricular biopsies from patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting and from pigs undergoing coronary occlusion/reperfusion without (sham) and with RIPC, only the activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 was associated withRIPC’s cardioprotection.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel functional haplotype in the human GNAS gene alters Gαs expression, responsiveness to β-adrenoceptor stimulation, and peri-operative cardiac performance
Ulrich H. Frey,Michael Adamzik,Eva Kottenberg-Assenmacher,Heinz Jakob,Iris Manthey,Martina Broecker-Preuss,Lars Bergmann,Gerd Heusch,Winfried Siffert,Jürgen Peters,Kirsten Leineweber +10 more
TL;DR: SNPs in regulatory regions of GNAS impact upon Galphas expression and stimulated cAMP formation in human hearts in vitro and upon cardiac performance in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lethal acute respiratory distress syndrome during anti-TNF-α therapy for rheumatoid arthritis
TL;DR: In patients receiving anti-TNF-α therapy, especially in combination with corticosteroids, signs of pulmonary infection should be regarded as very serious, as fulminant pneumonia with ARDS and severe sepsis may develop within 24 h.
