Numerical simulation of heat transfer and fluid flow in coaxial laser cladding process for direct metal deposition

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-dimensional transient model was developed for a coaxial powder injection laser cladding process, where physical phenomena including heat transfer, melting and solidification phase changes, mass addition, and fluid flow in the melt pool were modeled in a self-consistent manner.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of defect density, microstructure, residual stress, elastic modulus, hardness and strength of laser-deposited AISI 4340 steel

TL;DR: In this article, a laser-aided direct metal deposition (DMD) was used to form a AISI 4340 steel coating on an aISI 4140 steel substrate and the defect density and microstructural property of the DMD coating were analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiple reflection and its influence on keyhole evolution

TL;DR: In this article, a multiple reflection model inside a self-consistent (or self-evolving) cavity has been developed based on the level set method and ray tracing technique.
Journal ArticleDOI

High speed remote laser cutting of electrodes for lithium-ion batteries: Anode

TL;DR: In this paper, a mathematical model of three-dimensional self-consistent remote laser cutting is presented for anode (graphite-coated copper) of lithium-ion batteries, and experimental results, obtained by using laser power of 450 W and scanning speed of 5 m s −1, show a two-step melt pool geometry and copper composition increase on the material interface.
