Journal ArticleDOI
Antibodies to cachectin/tumor necrosis factor reduce interleukin 1 beta and interleukin 6 appearance during lethal bacteremia.
Yuman Fong,Kevin J. Tracey,Lyle L. Moldawer,David G. Hesse,K B Manogue,J S Kenney,A T Lee,G C Kuo,A C Allison,Stephen F. Lowry +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that cachectin/TNF is essential for the initiation or amplification of IL-1 and IL-6 release during lethal gram-negative septic shock syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cachectin/TNF or IL-1 alpha induces cachexia with redistribution of body proteins
Yuman Fong,Lyle L. Moldawer,M. A. Marano,H. Wei,A. E. Barber,K B Manogue,Kevin J. Tracey,G C Kuo,D. A. Fischman,Anthony Cerami +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that chronic exposure to the cytokines, IL-1 alpha or cachectin, can simulate those body and muscle protein changes seen in experimental LPS administration or chronic disease and markedly differ from the pattern of protein redistribution due to caloric restriction.
