Journal ArticleDOI

Does NIDDM increase the risk for coronary heart disease similarly in both low- and high-risk populations?

TL;DR: Results imply that factors related to NIDDM, independently of conventional risk factors and the occurrence of atherothrombosis in the background population, must play a major role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerotic vascular disease in NID DM diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impaired left ventricular systolic function during exercise in middle-aged insulin-dependent and noninsulin-dependent diabetic subjects without clinically evident cardiovascular disease

TL;DR: Abnormal LV ejection fraction response to exercise in diabetic patients was not related to the metabolic control of diabetes, presence of microangiopathy or abnormalities in the autonomic nervous function.
Journal ArticleDOI

Serum Lipids and Lipoproteins in Newly Diagnosed Non-insulin-dependent (Type II) Diabetic Patients, with Special Reference to Factors Influencing HDL-Cholesterol and Triglyceride Levels

TL;DR: Serum and lipoprotein lipids were examined in 133 newly diagnosed (type II) diabetic patients, aged 45–64 yr, and in 144 randomly selected nondiabetic control subjects of similar age.
Journal ArticleDOI

Association of low HDL and HDL2 cholesterol with coronary heart disease in noninsulin-dependent diabetics.

TL;DR: It is concluded that in a cross-sectional study, even among NIDDs with generally low HDL and HDL2 cholesterol concentrations, the presence of CHD is associated with a further depression of HDL and LDL2 cholesterol levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Five-Year Follow-Up Study on Plasma Insulin Levels in Newly Diagnosed NIDDM Patients and Nondiabetic Subjects

TL;DR: The frequency of insulin deficiency in diabetic patients based on a postglucagon C-peptide level <0.60 nM was 3.3% at the 5-yr examination, indicating that true insulin deficiency was uncommon during the first years after diagnosis of diabetes in middle-aged subjects.
