This paper studies a number of quantized feedback design problems for linear systems. We consider the case where quantizers are static (memoryless). The common aim of these design problems is to stabilize the given system or to achieve certain performance with the coarsest quantization density. Our main discovery is that the classical sector bound approach is nonconservative for studying these design problems. Consequently, we are able to convert many quantized feedback design problems to well-known robust control problems with sector bound uncertainties. In particular, we derive the coarsest quantization densities for stabilization for multiple-input-multiple-output systems in both state feedback and output feedback cases; and we also derive conditions for quantized feedback control for quadratic cost and H/sub /spl infin// performances.

Design of Type 1 Optimal Digital Servo Systems Using An Optimal Series Compensator

Optimization control of the rate of penetration (ROP) is crucial in the drilling process, due to its vital role in improving the drilling efficiency and safety. In this article, an improved dynamic optimization control system for ROP is proposed and successfully applied to a drilling site. First, a three layers (i.e., intelligent optimization layer, basic automation layer, and process monitoring layer) system framework is proposed according to the drilling characteristics. After that, “if–then” strategy is used as the method to identify the rotary drilling condition from four different working conditions. A moving window strategy is selected to establish the dynamic ROP model that can better adapt to environmental changes. Moreover, a Jaya algorithm, a new meta-heuristic optimization method, is introduced to solve the dynamic ROP optimization issue. In the simulations, the optimization performance of the proposed system is better than the moving window–extreme learning machine–hybrid bat algorithm with more stable (fewer switch times) drilling operational parameters. Finally, in an industrial application to a drilling process in Dandong area, Northeast China, the ROP is improved by 20.79% compared with manual operation. Both simulation and industrial application results indicate that the proposed system has significantly improved the drilling efficiency and safety.

Stabilization of a Class of On-Off Feedback Control Systems in Filippov Framework

On-off type discontinuous actuator is widely used in application due to its simplicity in the mechanics and high efficiency of energy consumption. Chattering phenomenon, which is primarily induced by sliding mode motion, often happens in such systems and deteriorates the system performance. Therefore, chattering avoidance is very important for such systems. In this paper, a condition is derived which guarantees that the forward solution is unique and sliding mode free.

Sliding mode free analysis of linear systems with discontinuous on-off type actuators

Spatially cyclic disturbances exist widely in rotating machines. They usually have fixed spatial cycles rather than constant time periods, which affect the stationarity of angular speed tracking. An input matching least mean square (LMS) adaptive filter (IMLMS-AF) is proposed to cope with the effects of spatially cyclic disturbances. The IMLMS-AF sets a part of the inputs as spatially cyclic signals for disturbance rejection and forms another part as a time-dependent function for reference tracking. Furthermore, an updated law and convergence of the pending weights are given. The system's stability is proved by combining the instantaneous gradient with Lyapunov theory. Moreover, the IMLMS-AFs are parallelized to reject disturbance with multiple components and reference tracking. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control method are verified and compared with other methods by simulations and experiments.
