Essentials of Robust Control

Linear Robust Control

This paper studies a number of quantized feedback design problems for linear systems. We consider the case where quantizers are static (memoryless). The common aim of these design problems is to stabilize the given system or to achieve certain performance with the coarsest quantization density. Our main discovery is that the classical sector bound approach is nonconservative for studying these design problems. Consequently, we are able to convert many quantized feedback design problems to well-known robust control problems with sector bound uncertainties. In particular, we derive the coarsest quantization densities for stabilization for multiple-input-multiple-output systems in both state feedback and output feedback cases; and we also derive conditions for quantized feedback control for quadratic cost and H/sub /spl infin// performances.

A Novel Approach to the Phase-Shaping-Based Performance Enhancement of Multichannel Parametric Systems

On the Capability of T-S Model in Describing Nonlinear Systems

A soft-switching interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter, which is the combination of the conventional one and the introduced auxiliary circuit, is proposed in this paper. The auxiliary branch composed of a capacitor, an inductor and two switches connected in series, is attached to the switching nodes of the two phases and serves them in a shared manner. Due to voltage continuity of the auxiliary capacitor, the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) condition is realized nearly for primary switches at turn-off. With the designed driving sequences, the current gradually flows through auxiliary inductor ahead of primary switches turn-on, which is key to realizing ZVS condition for the switches. Moreover, the limited current slope guarantees the zero-current switching (ZCS) condition for auxiliary switches. Operating principle in buck mode is elaborated and design guideline is presented. Considering the parasitic resonance between the auxiliary inductor and the output capacitors of auxiliary switches, a clamping structure is given. A 1.2-kW prototype of the proposed converter is built and tested. The experimental results show the high performance. 

An Efficient Interleaved Bidirectional DC-DC Converter with Shared Soft-Switching Auxiliary Circuit

In this paper, we address an online sensor transmission scheduling of networked control systems (NCSs). The scheduler decides some sensor values to be sent to a controller via network so as to reduce communication cost while considering control performance of NCSs. The scheduling is executed in the controller side, which does not require computation load in the sensor side. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified via a numerical example.

Online Sensor Transmission Scheduling of Networked Control Systems

High speed trains are being developed rapidly world-wide, particularly in China. A train is powered by several pantograph-catenary systems. The power transmission efficiency is the central issue in this system. To this end, a high precision control of the contact force between the catenary and the pan-head is a must. However, owing to the feature of the catenary the stiffness varies periodically and the frequency is rather high for a high-speed train. This fast-varying stiffness brings about a big oscillation in the contact force and must be actively controlled. This problem has not been well resolved up to now. In this talk, a phase-shaping approach, combined with the idea of disturbance observer, is proposed and validated. It is verified that this method outperforms all existing technologies.
