Gradual Aeration at Birth Is More Lung Protective Than a Sustained Inflation in Preterm Lambs
David G. Tingay,Prue M. Pereira-Fantini,Regina B. Oakley,Karen E. McCall,Elizabeth J. Perkins,Martijn Miedema,Magdy Sourial,Jessica Thomson,Andreas D. Waldmann,Raffaele Dellaca,Peter G Davis,Peter G Davis,Peter A. Dargaville,Peter A. Dargaville +13 more
TL;DR: Rapidly aerating the preterm lung at birth creates heterogeneous volume states, producing distinct regional injury patterns that affect subsequent tidal ventilation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma proteomics reveals gestational age-specific responses to mechanical ventilation and identifies the mechanistic pathways that initiate preterm lung injury.
Prue M. Pereira-Fantini,Sean G. Byars,Karen E. McCall,Elizabeth J. Perkins,Regina B. Oakley,Raffaele Dellaca,Peter A. Dargaville,Peter G Davis,Peter G Davis,Vera Ignjatovic,David G. Tingay,David G. Tingay +11 more
TL;DR: In identifying the gestation-specific proteome and functional responses to ventilation, the founding evidence required for the potential development of individualized respiratory support approaches tailored to both the developmental and pathological state of the lung is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determining the pattern and prevalence of alcohol consumption in pregnancy by measuring biomarkers in meconium
Carolyn Abernethy,Karen E. McCall,Gail Cooper,Donata Favretto,Fabio Vaiano,Elisabetta Bertol,Helen Mactier +6 more
TL;DR: Measurement of ethanol biomarkers in meconium is a feasible tool for determining the pattern and prevalence of alcohol consumption in pregnancy and data suggest that at least 15% of pregnant women in the west of Scotland are consuming significant quantities of alcohol during latter pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sustained lung inflation at birth: what do we know, and what do we need to know?
TL;DR: This review will outline current recommendations regarding a sustained inflation, discuss potential strategies for its optimal delivery and suggest priorities for future research.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time to lung aeration during a sustained inflation at birth is influenced by gestation in lambs
Karen E. McCall,Andreas D. Waldmann,Prue M. Pereira-Fantini,Regina B. Oakley,Martijn Miedema,Elizabeth J. Perkins,Peter G Davis,Peter G Davis,Peter A. Dargaville,Stephan H. Bohm,Raffaele Dellaca,Magdy Sourial,Emanuela Zannin,Anushi E Rajapaksa,Andre Yi Feng Tan,Andy Adler,Inéz Frerichs,David G. Tingay +17 more
TL;DR: The trajectory of aeration during an SI at birth is influenced by gestational age in lambs, and an understanding of this may assist in developing SI protocols that optimize lung aeration for all infants.
