Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of intensive blood-pressure lowering and low-dose aspirin in patients with hypertension: principal results of the Hypertension Optimal Treatment (HOT) randomised trial
Lennart Hansson,Alberto Zanchetti,S. George Carruthers,Björn Dahlöf,Dag Elmfeldt,Stevo Julius,Joël Ménard,Karl Heinz Rahn,Hans Wedel,Sten Westerling +9 more
TL;DR: Intensive lowering of blood pressure in patients with hypertension was associated with a low rate of cardiovascular events and the potential benefit of a low dose of acetylsalicylic acid in the treatment of hypertension was assessed.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
2003 European society of hypertension - European Society of Cardiology guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension

Journal ArticleDOI
Sympathetic Nerve Activity in End-Stage Renal Disease
Martin Hausberg,Markus Kosch,Patrick Harmelink,Michael Barenbrock,Helge Hohage,Klaus Kisters,K. H. Dietl,Karl Heinz Rahn +7 more
TL;DR: Increased SNA is observed in renal transplant recipients with diseased native kidneys at a level not significantly different from chronic hemodialysis patients, and seems to be mediated by signals arising in the native kidneys that are independent of circulating uremia related toxins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Calcium Antagonist Lacidipine Slows Down Progression of Asymptomatic Carotid Atherosclerosis Principal Results of the European Lacidipine Study on Atherosclerosis (ELSA), a Randomized, Double-Blind, Long-Term Trial
Alberto Zanchetti,M. Gene Bond,M. Hennig,Albrecht Neiss,Giuseppe Mancia,Cesare Dal Palù,Lennart Hansson,Bruno Magnani,Karl Heinz Rahn,John L. Reid,Jose L. Rodicio,Michel E. Safar,Lothar Eckes,Paolo Rizzini +13 more
TL;DR: The greater efficacy of lacidipine on carotid IMT progression and number of plaques per patient, despite a smaller ambulatory blood pressure reduction, indicates an antiatherosclerotic action of lacIDipine independent of its antihypertensive action.
Journal ArticleDOI
