Journal ArticleDOI
A Multi-institutional International Analysis of Textbook Outcomes among Patients Undergoing Curative-Intent Resection of Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma
Katiuscha Merath,Qinyu Chen,Fabio Bagante,Fabio Bagante,Sorin Alexandrescu,Hugo Marques,Luca Aldrighetti,Shishir K. Maithel,Carlo Pulitano,Matthew J. Weiss,Todd W. Bauer,Feng Shen,George A. Poultsides,Olivier Soubrane,Guillaume Martel,B. Groot Koerkamp,Alfredo Guglielmi,Endo Itaru,Jordan M. Cloyd,Timothy M. Pawlik +19 more
TL;DR: While hepatic resection for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma was performed with less than 5% mortality in specialized centers, a textbooks outcome was achieved in only approximately 26% of patients, suggesting a textbook outcome may be useful for the reporting of patient-level hospital performance and hospital variation, leading to quality improvement efforts after resection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Textbook Outcomes Among Medicare Patients Undergoing Hepatopancreatic Surgery.
Katiuscha Merath,Qinyu Chen,Fabio Bagante,Fabio Bagante,Eliza W. Beal,Ozgur Akgul,Mary Dillhoff,Jordan M. Cloyd,Timothy M. Pawlik +8 more
TL;DR: Less than one-half of Medicare patients achieved a TO following hepatopancreatic procedures with a wide variation in the rates of TO among hospitals, which could be useful for the public reporting of patient level hospital performance and hospital variation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of shared decision-making on patient-reported health outcomes and healthcare utilization.
Tasha M. Hughes,Katiuscha Merath,Qinyu Chen,Steven Sun,Elizabeth Palmer,Jay J. Idrees,Victor Okunrintemi,Malcolm H. Squires,Eliza W. Beal,Timothy M. Pawlik +9 more
TL;DR: Poor SDM was associated with worse patient-reported health outcomes, worse established quality indicators, and higher healthcare utilization, while increasing physician education may help optimize SDM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trends in the Incidence, Treatment and Outcomes of Patients with Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma in the USA: Facility Type is Associated with Margin Status, Use of Lymphadenectomy and Overall Survival.
Lu Wu,Lu Wu,Diamantis I. Tsilimigras,Anghela Z. Paredes,Rittal Mehta,J. Madison Hyer,Katiuscha Merath,Kota Sahara,Fabio Bagante,Eliza W. Beal,Feng Shen,Timothy M. Pawlik +11 more
TL;DR: Treatment at academic cancer centers was associated with higher R0 resection and lymphadenectomy rates, as well as improved OS for patients with ICC, with a moderate improvement in survival over time.
Journal ArticleDOI
KRAS Mutation Status Dictates Optimal Surgical Margin Width in Patients Undergoing Resection of Colorectal Liver Metastases
Georgios A. Margonis,Georgios A. Margonis,Kazunari Sasaki,Nikolaos Andreatos,Yuhree Kim,Katiuscha Merath,Doris Wagner,Ana Wilson,Stefan Buettner,Neda Amini,Efstathios Antoniou,Timothy M. Pawlik +11 more
TL;DR: While a 1–4 mm margin clearance in patients with wtKRAS tumors was associated with improved survival, wider resection width did not confer an additional survival benefit and margin status—including a 1 cm margin—did not improve survival among patients with mut KRAS tumors.
