Journal ArticleDOI

A low concentration of azithromycin inhibits the mRNA expression of N-acyl homoserine lactone synthesis enzymes, upstream of lasI or rhlI, in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

TL;DR: DNA microarray analysis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa after treatment with a low concentration of azithromycin found that a sub-MIC of azitromycin didn't change mRNA expression of quorum-sensing related genes, but lowered expression of most N-acyl homoserine lactone synthesis enzymes upstream of lasI and rhlI.
Journal ArticleDOI

Efficacies of calcium-EDTA in combination with imipenem in a murine model of sepsis caused by Escherichia coli with NDM-1 β-lactamase.

TL;DR: In the neutropenic murine model of sepsis, the bacterial burden was further reduced by combination therapy using imipenem/cilastatin sodium (IPM/CS) and Ca-EDTA to 2.3 ×-103 CFU/liver, compared with 2.9 × 104 CFU /liver for IPM/CS alone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chromosomally Encoded blaCMY-2 Located on a Novel SXT/R391-Related Integrating Conjugative Element in a Proteus mirabilis Clinical Isolate

TL;DR: A genetic analysis of a cefoxitin-resistant Proteus mirabilis clinical isolate revealed the presence of a novel SXT/R391-related Integrating conjugative elements, ICEPmiJpn1, which may contribute to the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance genes among clinically relevant Enterobacteriaceae, which warrants careful observation of the prevalence of ICEs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metagenomic analysis for detecting pathogens in culture-negative infective endocarditis.

TL;DR: A case of successful pathogen detection with metagenomic analysis in a patient of culture-negative IE who underwent valve replacement surgery and received antibiotics for 5 weeks and survived is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Compensatory response of IL-1 gene knockout mice after pulmonary infection with Klebsiella pneumoniae.

TL;DR: The data suggest that compensatory production of TNF-alpha in IL-1 KO mice contributes to the host defence against K. pneumoniae infection.
