Update on primary head and neck mucosal melanoma
Fernando López,Juan P. Rodrigo,Antonio Cardesa,Asterios Triantafyllou,Kenneth O. Devaney,William M. Mendenhall,Missak Haigentz,Primož Strojan,Phillip K. Pellitteri,Carol R. Bradford,Ashok R. Shaha,Jennifer L. Hunt,Remco de Bree,Robert P. Takes,Alessandra Rinaldo,Alfio Ferlito +15 more
TL;DR: Despite improvements in the field of surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic therapy, patients with PMM still face a very unfavorable prognosis with high rates of locoregional recurrence and distant metastasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current management of mucosal melanoma of the head and neck
Jesus E. Medina,Alfio Ferlito,Phillip K. Pellitteri,Ashok R. Shaha,Avi Khafif,Kenneth O. Devaney,Samuel R. Fisher,Christopher J. O'Brien,Robert M. Byers,K. Thomas Robbins,Karen T. Pitman,Alessandra Rinaldo +11 more
TL;DR: It appears as though mucosal melanomas (MuMs) develop more frequently in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinus region, and less often in the oral cavity, and it seems that the incidence of nodal metastasis is significantly lower for sinonasal MuMs than it is for MuMs of the Oral cavity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aggressive variants of papillary thyroid carcinoma.
Carl E. Silver,Randall P. Owen,Juan P. Rodrigo,Alessandra Rinaldo,Kenneth O. Devaney,Alfio Ferlito +5 more
TL;DR: Clinical treatment decisions should be based on the stage of the disease, influenced by the knowledge that the aggressive variants tend to be associated with higher risk factors, including higher histologic grade, extracapsular spread, large tumor size, and the presence of distant metastases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Craniopharyngioma: a pathologic, clinical, and surgical review.
Juan C. Fernandez-Miranda,Paul A. Gardner,Carl H. Snyderman,Kenneth O. Devaney,Primož Strojan,Carlos Suárez,Eric M. Genden,Alessandra Rinaldo,Alfio Ferlito +8 more
TL;DR: Endoscopic skull base reconstruction with the vascularized nasoseptal flap has dramatically reduced the incidence of cerebrospinal fluid leak, consolidating endoscopic endonasal surgery as an effective and safe alternative for the treatment of these challenging tumors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contemporary management of lymph node metastases from an unknown primary to the neck: II. A review of therapeutic options
Primož Strojan,Alfio Ferlito,Johannes A. Langendijk,June Corry,Julia A. Woolgar,Alessandra Rinaldo,Carl E. Silver,Vinidh Paleri,Johannes J. Fagan,Phillip K. Pellitteri,Missak Haigentz,Carlos Suárez,K. Thomas Robbins,Juan P. Rodrigo,Kerry D. Olsen,Michael L. Hinni,Jochen A. Werner,Vanni Mondin,Luiz Paulo Kowalski,Kenneth O. Devaney,Remco de Bree,Robert P. Takes,Gregory T. Wolf,Ashok R. Shaha,Eric M. Genden,Leon Barnes +25 more
TL;DR: A critical appraisal of various treatment approaches for CUP with metastases to cervical lymph nodes is provided, and the addition of systemic agents is expected to yield similar improvement in outcome as has been observed for known head and neck primary tumors.
