Journal ArticleDOI
Increasing daily walking lowers blood pressure in postmenopausal women.
Kerrie L. Moreau,Rachel Degarmo,Jason G. Langley,Colleen Mcmahon,Edward T. Howley,David R. Bassett,Dixie L. Thompson +6 more
TL;DR: A 24-wk walking program meeting the ACSM-CDC physical activity recommendation is effective in lowering systolic BP in postmenopausal women with borderline to stage 1 hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endothelial function is impaired across the stages of the menopause transition in healthy women
TL;DR: The findings suggest that a decline in endothelial function begins during the early stages of menopause (perimenopause) and worsens with the loss of ovarian function and prolonged estrogen deficiency, adding to the accumulating evidence that the perimenopausal window is a critical time period for adverse changes in CVD risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Greater Age-Related Reductions in Central Arterial Compliance in Resistance-Trained Men
Motohiko Miyachi,Anthony J. Donato,Kenta Yamamoto,Kouki Takahashi,Phillip E. Gates,Kerrie L. Moreau,Hirofumi Tanaka +6 more
TL;DR: Using the cross-sectional study design, the relation between chronic resistance training and carotid arterial compliance was determined and it was found that resistance-trained men were more compliant than sedentary men, but the level of compliance in the sedentary group was lower.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regular exercise, hormone replacement therapy and the age-related decline in carotid arterial compliance in healthy women.
Kerrie L. Moreau,Anthony J. Donato,Anthony J. Donato,Douglas R. Seals,Douglas R. Seals,Christopher A. DeSouza,Hirofumi Tanaka +6 more
TL;DR: Moderate, short-term aerobic exercise can restore carotid arterial compliance in previously sedentary postmenopausal women taking HRT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overweight and Obese Humans Demonstrate Increased Vascular Endothelial NAD(P)H Oxidase-p47phox Expression and Evidence of Endothelial Oxidative Stress
Annemarie Silver,Stacy D. Beske,Demetra D. Christou,Anthony J. Donato,Kerrie L. Moreau,Kerrie L. Moreau,Iratxe Eskurza,Phillip E. Gates,Douglas R. Seals,Douglas R. Seals +9 more
TL;DR: Compared with their normal-weight peers, overweight and obese adults demonstrate increased vascular endothelial expression of NAD(P)H oxidase-p47phox and evidence of endothelial oxidative stress, with selective compensatory upregulation of antioxidant enzymes and Ser1177-phosphorylated endothelial nitric oxide synthase.
