Saturation of cross-beam energy transfer for multispeckled laser beams involving both ion and electron dynamics
TL;DR: In this article, the nonlinear saturation of crossed-beam energy transfer (CBET) for multispeckled laser beams crossing at arbitrary angles is examined using vector particle-in-cell simulations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Driven magnetic reconnection near the Dreicer limita)
Vadim Roytershteyn,William Daughton,Seth Dorfman,Yang Ren,Hantao Ji,Masaaki Yamada,H. Karimabadi,Lin Yin,Brian J. Albright,Kevin J. Bowers +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the influence of Coulomb collisions on the dynamics of driven magnetic reconnection in geometry mimicking the Magnetic Reconnection eXperiment (MRX) was investigated using two-dimensional (2D) fully kinetic simulations with a Monte Carlo treatment of the collision operator.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mono-energetic ion beam acceleration in solitary waves during relativistic transparency using high-contrast circularly polarized short-pulse laser and nanoscale targets
Lin Yin,Brian J. Albright,Daniel Jung,Kevin J. Bowers,R. C. Shah,Sasikumar Palaniyappan,Juan C. Fernandez,Bjorn Hegelich +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, an analytic theory has been derived for the properties of these solitons that reproduces the behavior observed in kinetic simulations and the experiments at the Trident laser facility, where quasi-monoenergetic ion beams have been obtained from the interaction of an ultraintense, circularly polarized laser with a diamond-like carbon target.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of amplification of light by Langmuir waves and its saturation on the electron kinetic timescale
R. K. Kirkwood,Yuan Ping,Scott Wilks,Nathan Meezan,Pierre Michel,E. A. Williams,Daniel S. Clark,L. J. Suter,Otto Landen,Nathaniel Fisch,E. J. Valeo,Vladimir Malkin,David Turnbull,Szymon Suckewer,Jonathan Wurtele,T. L. Wang,S. F. Martins,Chan Joshi,Lin Yin,Brian J. Albright,H. A. Rose,Kevin J. Bowers +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate the ~77× amplification of 0.5 to 3.5-ps pulses of seed light by interaction with Langmuir waves in a low density (1.2 × 1019 cm−3) plasma produced by a 1-ns, 230-J, 1054-nm pump beam with 1.2× 1014 W/cm2 intensity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Computationally efficient molecular dynamics integrators with improved sampling accuracy
Cristian Predescu,Ross A. Lippert,Michael P. Eastwood,Douglas J. Ierardi,Huafeng Xu,Morten Ø. Jensen,Kevin J. Bowers,Justin Gullingsrud,C. A. Rendleman,Ron O. Dror,David E. Shaw +10 more
TL;DR: This work introduces a class of explicit variational integrators designed to achieve high accuracy for quadratic potentials, with little additional computation relative to traditional integrators, and shows that they improve accuracy for classical biomolecular simulations.
