Journal ArticleDOI
Cure of Short- and Long-Term Experimental Chagas' Disease Using D0870
Julio A. Urbina,Gilberto Payares,Judith Molina,Cristina Sanoja,Andreína Liendo,Keyla Lazardi,Marta M. Piras,Romano Piras,Norma Perez,Patrick Wincker,John F. Ryley +10 more
TL;DR: D0870 was able to prevent death and induced parasitological cure in 70 to 90 percent of animals and may be useful in the treatment of human long-term Chagas' disease, a condition that is currently incurable.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mevinolin (lovastatin) potentiates the antiproliferative effects of ketoconazole and terbinafine against Trypanosoma (Schizotrypanum) cruzi: in vitro and in vivo studies.
Julio A. Urbina,Keyla Lazardi,Edgar Marchán,Gonzalo Visbal,T Aguirre,Marta M. Piras,R Piras,Rosa A. Maldonado,G Payares,W. De Souza +9 more
TL;DR: Results confirm the synergic action against the proliferative stages of T. cruzi both in vitro and in vivo and suggest that mevinolin combined with azoles, such as ketoconazole, can be used in the treatment of human Chagas' disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Toward a novel metal-based chemotherapy against tropical diseases. 1. Enhancement of the efficacy of clotrimazole against Trypanosoma cruzi by complexation to ruthenium in RuCl2(clotrimazole)2.
Roberto A. Sánchez-Delgado,Keyla Lazardi,Luis Rincón,Julio A. Urbina,André J. Hubert,Alfred Noels +5 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Antiproliferative Effects of △24(25) Sterol Methyl Transferase Inhibitors on Trypanosoma (Schizotrypanum) cruzi: In vitro and in vivo Studies
Julio A. Urbina,Julio Vivas,Keyla Lazardi,Judith Molina,Gilberto Payares,Marta M. Pirns,Romano Piras +6 more
TL;DR: Two sterol analogs previously reported as potent inhibitors of Δ24(25) sterol methyl transferase are studied for antiproliferative effects of yeasts and fungi on epim.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis and cell proliferation in trypanosomacruzi by ajoene, an antiplatelet compound isolated from garlic
Julio A. Urbina,Edgar Marchán,Keyla Lazardi,Gonzalo Visbal,Rafael Apitz-Castro,Francisco Gil,Tania Aguirre,Marta M. Piras,Romano Piras +8 more
TL;DR: One important factor associated with the antiproliferative effects of ajoene against T. cruzi is its specific alteration of the phospholipid composition of these cells, particularly the mitochondrion and endoplasmatic reticulum.
