Aquaculture's pressure on forage fisheries remains hotly contested. This article reviews trends in fishmeal and fish oil use in industrial aquafeeds, showing reduced inclusion rates but greater total use associated with increased aquaculture production and demand for fish high in long-chain omega-3 oils. The ratio of wild fisheries inputs to farmed fish output has fallen to 0.63 for the aquaculture sector as a whole but remains as high as 5.0 for Atlantic salmon. Various plant- and animal-based alternatives are now used or available for industrial aquafeeds, depending on relative prices and consumer acceptance, and the outlook for single-cell organisms to replace fish oil is promising. With appropriate economic and regulatory incentives, the transition toward alternative feedstuffs could accelerate, paving the way for a consensus that aquaculture is aiding the ocean, not depleting it.

Correction for Feeding aquaculture in an era of finite resources

Transition metal phosphides as ideal anodes have been attracted a large number of interests due to their excellent performance for lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, CoMoP2 materials were rarely reported as lithium-ion battery anode materials. Thereupon, to excavate their ability in LIBs, a sandwich-like architecture was employed as anode material, in which heterostructured CoMoP2 and MoP nanoparticles were coated on N, P co-doped carbon matrix. Notably, doped micro-lamellated carbon sheets could not only allow boosted lithium ion and electron transport but also alleviate the volume changes of active material to sustain anode integrity during the discharge/charge processes. More importantly, the combination of CoMoP2 and MoP nanoparticles could synergically strengthen the electrochemical activities of the anodes, and their built-in heterojunction facilitated the reaction kinetics on their interfaces. This research may offer a rational design on both heterostructure and doping engineering of future anodes for lithium-ion batteries.

The last decade witnessed a great development of automated driving vehicles (ADVs) and vehicle intelligence. The significant increment of machine intelligence poses a new challenge to the community, which is the collaboration between human drivers and vehicle autonomy. As vehicle autonomy is gaining more control authority, the roles that human drivers can play in the future need to be further clarified. In this study, literature review and perspectives on the human behaviors and cognition (HBC) for ADVs toward human-autonomy (H-A) collaboration are proposed. First, the H-A collaboration basics and key factors are reviewed. Then, the HBC issues in driver behavior modeling and understanding are discussed. Specifically, two key factors are reviewed, which are human trust and situation awareness (SA). Next, HBC in two H-A collaboration-enabled vehicle control methods, namely, shared control and take-over control, are analyzed. It is shown that the human-centered collaboration strategy that integrates driver states will largely increase the acceptance of the ADVs. Then, the HBC issues in the design of human-machine-interface (HMI) for future autonomous and collaboration-enabled ADVs are discussed. Last, challenges and future works for H-A collaboration on ADVs are analyzed to contribute to the development of understandable, trustable, and acceptable ADVs.

Toward human-vehicle collaboration: Review and perspectives on human-centered collaborative automated driving

Upon various investigations conducted in search for a nanosensor material with the best sensing performance, the need to explore these materials cannot be overemphasized as materials associated with best sensing attributes are of vast interest to researchers. Hence, there is a need to investigate the adsorption performances of various metal-doped fullerene surfaces: C59Au, C59Hf, C59Hg, C59Ir, C59Os, C59Pt, C59Re, and C59W on thiourea [SC(NH2)2] molecule using first-principles density functional theory computation. Comparative adsorption study has been carried out on various adsorption models of four functionals, M06-2X, M062X-D3, PBE0-D3, and ωB97XD, and two double-hybrid (DH) functionals, DSDPBEP86 and PBE0DH, as reference at Gen/def2svp/LanL2DZ. The visual study of weak interactions such as quantum theory of atoms in molecule analysis and noncovalent interaction analysis has been invoked to ascertain these results, and hence we arrived at a conclusive scientific report. In all cases, the weak adsorption observed is best described as physisorption phenomena, and CH4N2S@C59Pt complex exhibits better sensing attributes than its studied counterparts in the interactions between thiourea molecule and transition metal-doped fullerene surfaces. Also, in the comparative adsorption study, DH density functionals show better performance in estimating the adsorption energies due to their reduced mean absolute deviation (MAD) and root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) values of (MAD = 1.0305, RMSD = 1.6277) and (MAD = 0.9965, RMSD = 1.6101) in DSDPBEP86 and PBE0DH, respectively.

Probing the Reactions of Thiourea (CH4N2S) with Metals (X = Au, Hf, Hg, Ir, Os, W, Pt, and Re) Anchored on Fullerene Surfaces (C59X)

In this study, a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) was synthesized and used as an adsorbent for the removal of Ismate violet 2R dye from contaminated water. The morphology and structure of the synthesized adsorbent were examined via the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis, infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Raman spectroscopy. The effects of an MWCNT on the removal of IV2R were examined via a batch method using different factors such as pH, agitation time, adsorbent dosage, temperature, and initial dye concentration. The results showed that, at the acidic pH 4, 0.08 g of an MWCNT with 10 mg L−1 at 120 min realized the favorable removal of IV2R dye using an MWCNT. Under these operation conditions, the maximum elimination efficiency for real wastewater reached 88.2%. This process benefits from the ability to remove a large amount of dye (approximately 85.9%) in as short as 10 min using 0.005 g of MWCNTs. Moreover, the investigational isotherm data were examined by different models. The equations of error functions were used in the isotherm model to show the most appropriate isotherm model. The highest adsorption capacity for the removal of the dye was 76.92 mg g−1 for the MWCNT. Moreover, the regression data indicated that the adsorption kinetics were appropriate with a pseudo-second order and an R2 of 0.999. The thermodynamic study showed that the removal of IV2R is an endothermic, spontaneous, and chemisorption process. The MWCNT compound appears to be a new, promising adsorbent in water treatment, with 91.71% regeneration after three cycles.

Influencing Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes for the Removal of Ismate Violet 2R Dye from Wastewater: Isotherm, Kinetics, and Thermodynamic Studies

In this study, a polymeric (acrylonitrile-co-styrene) P(AN-co-St) composite was impregnated with adsorbents, such as sulfonated and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), to increase the adsorptive characteristics of the nanocomposite upon the removal of methyl orange (MO) dye under different conditions. A novel nanocomposite copolymer mixture of P(AN-co-St) and SP(AN-co-St) was used. MWCNTs were prepared by a low-cost chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. Variation in MO adsorption onto the three nanocomposites was examined in an aqueous solution via the batch technique with respect to contact time, initial MO concentration, adsorbent dosage, pH, and temperature. The surface of the nanocomposites was characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), particle size distribution (PSD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and Raman analysis. The experimental data showed that the efficiency of P(AN-co-St)/ MWCNT removal increased under the conditions of an acidic pH (3 and 5) with an agitation speed of 140 rpm, a sorbent weight of 0.01 g, and 20 mg of initial dye. The maximum sorption capacities were 121.95, 48.78, and 47.84 mg g−1 for the P(AN-co-St)/ MWCNTs, SP(AN-co-St), and P(AN-co-St) composites, respectively, as assessed by the Langmuir model. Additional isotherm models, such as the Freundlich, Temkin, and Halsey models, were used to examine the experimental data. A pseudo-second-order model was found to be more fitting for describing the sorption.
