Journal ArticleDOI
Neoclassical toroidal viscosity in perturbed equilibria with general tokamak geometry
TL;DR: In this article, the Perturbed Equilibrium Nonambipolar Transport (PENT) code was developed for this purpose, and is compared to previous combined regime models as well as regime specific limits and a drift kinetic δf guiding center code.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rotational resonance of nonaxisymmetric magnetic braking in the KSTAR tokamak.
Jong-Kyu Park,You-Moon Jeon,Jonathan Menard,W. H. Ko,S. G. Lee,Y. S. Bae,M. Joung,K.-I. You,K.-D. Lee,Nikolas Logan,Kimin Kim,Jinseok Ko,S. W. Yoon,S. H. Hahn,J. H. Kim,W. C. Kim,Y.-K. Oh,J.-G. Kwak +17 more
TL;DR: The predicted and observed resonant peak along with the toroid rotation implies that the toroidal rotation in tokamaks can be controlled naturally in favorable conditions to stability, using nonaxisymmetric magnetic perturbations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overview of KSTAR research progress and future plans toward ITER and K-DEMO
H.K. Park,Minjun Choi,Suk-Ho Hong,Y. In,Young-Mu Jeon,Jinseok Ko,Won-Ha Ko,Jong-Gu Kwak,J.M. Kwon,Jinhyuck Lee,Jaehyun Lee,W.-R. Lee,Y.B. Nam,Yeong-Kook Oh,B.H. Park,Jinseop Park,Y. S. Park,S.J. Wang,Min-Gu Yoo,S.W. Yoon,J.G. Bak,C. S. Chang,Wonho Choe,Y. Chu,Jin-Hyuk Chung,N.W. Eidietis,Hyunsun Han,Sang-hee Hahn,H.G. Jhang,J. W. Juhn,Jayhyun Kim,Kimin Kim,A. Loarte,H. H. Lee,Kun-Chun Lee,D. Mueller,Yong-Su Na,Yong-Un Nam,G.Y. Park,Kwonjin Park,R.A. Pitts,S.A. Sabbagh,Gunsu Yun +42 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a new divertor/internal interface with full active cooling system is implemented after the increased heating power systems and new current drive systems are fully tested to accommodate anticipating higher performance of the KSTAR plasmas with increased heating powers (NBI and ECH).
Journal ArticleDOI
Theory comparison and numerical benchmarking on neoclassical toroidal viscosity torque
TL;DR: Park et al. as discussed by the authors showed that the imaginary part of drift kinetic energy computed by MARS-K is equivalent to the NTV torque in IPEC-PENT, and the agreement and correlation between the connected NTV formula and the combined NTV theory in different collisionality regimes were shown for the first time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characteristics of the first H-mode discharges in KSTAR
S.W. Yoon,Joon-Wook Ahn,You-Moon Jeon,T. Suzuki,Sang-hee Hahn,W.H. Ko,K.D. Lee,J.I. Chung,Yong-Un Nam,Jik-Soo Kim,Suk-Ho Hong,Hyun-Seok Kim,W.C. Kim,Yeong-Kook Oh,J.G. Kwak,Y. S. Park,S.A. Sabbagh,D. Humpreys,Yong-Su Na,Kimin Kim,Gunsu Yun,A.W. Hyatt,P. Gohil,Y.S. Bae,H.L. Yang,Hyeon K. Park,M. Kwon,G.S. Lee +27 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that the L?H transition typically occurred shortly after the beginning of plasma current flattop (Ip = 0.6?MA) period and after the fast shaping to a highly elongated double-null divertor configuration.
