It was tried to discuss the life-cycle assessment of fly-ash concrete and the allocation of environmental burden between the power system and the concrete system. An allocation coefficient of environmental burden Cm was introduced to discuss the environmental burden of the concrete system with or without fly ash of different grade. It's concluded that mixing fly ash into concrete can diminish environmental burden of both the power system and the concrete system. Mixing 55% grade Ⅰfly ash, 40% grade Ⅱ fly ash, and 10% grade Ⅲ fly ash into concrete, the coal consumption can be cut down by 30.6%?22.3% and 5.6%, respectively of CO\-2 can be cut down by 31.4%, 22.8% and 5.7%. The discharge of NO\-X can cut down 27.5%?25.1% and 4.9% and the discharge of SO\-2 can be cut down by 28.0%,22.5% and 5.0%. The amount of discarded meterial also be cut down accordingly. Therefore, the power system should gather and treat fly ash as resource and improve the grade of fly ash in order to increase the quantity of fly ash in concrete and reduce the environmental burden of both the power system and the concrete system.

Preliminary study of life-cycle assessment of fly-ash concrete

This paper presents the experiment results of compressive strength and permeability of ordinary hydraulic concrete,and studies the variations of relative permeability coefficient,chlorion diffusion coefficient,gas diffusion coefficient and porosity with water-to-cement ratio.Results show that the relationships between all kinds of concrete permeability and compressive strengths or water-to-cement ratios are not simple linear,but linear transformation among all kinds of concrete permeability can be used for assessing durability of the ordinary hydraulic concretes presently studied.
