Censored stable processes

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented several constructions of a censored stable process in an open set, i.e., a symmetric stable process which is not allowed to jump outside the boundary of the set.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the “Hot Spots” Conjecture of J. Rauch

TL;DR: Banuelos et al. as mentioned in this paper partially supported by NSF grant DMS-9400854, and Krzysztof Burdzy's research partially supported with NSF Grant DMS -9322689.
Book ChapterDOI

Some path properties of iterated Brownian motion

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered a self-similar process called the iterated Brownian motion (IBM) and proved that it is related to squared Laplacian.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Fleming-Viot Particle Representation of the Dirichlet Laplacian

TL;DR: In this paper, a model with a large number N of particles which move according to independent Brownian motions is considered, and the particle distribution density converges to the normalized heat equation solution in D with Dirichlet boundary conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

A counterexample to the “hot spots” conjecture

TL;DR: In this article, the authors construct a counterexample to the hot spots conjecture, showing that there exists a bounded connected planar domain (with two holes) such that the second eigenvalue of the Laplacian in that domain with Neumann boundary conditions is simple and that the corresponding eigenfunction attains its strict maximum at an interior point of that domain.
