Small scale mixing processes at the top of a marine stratocumulus—a case study
TL;DR: In this paper, a layer of intensive mixing (entrainment interface layer, [EIL]) at the top of marine stratocumulus under a strong inversion has been investigated with 10 cm resolution using an ultrafast thermometer (UFT-F; temperature), a particle volume monitor PVM-100A (liquid water content), and a fast forward scattering spectrometer probe (FFSSP; droplet spectra).
Journal ArticleDOI
The thermal properties of some nests of the Eurasian Tree Sparrow Passer montanus
Jan Pinowski,Andrzej Haman,Leszek Jerzak,Barbara Pinowska,Miłosława Barkowska,Andrzej Grodzki,Krzysztof E. Haman +6 more
TL;DR: Using an electronic apparatus simulating a bird roosting in a nest at night, the insulating qualities of Eurasian Tree Sparrow nests built in nest boxes under winter conditions were examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physics of Stratocumulus Top (POST): turbulent mixing across capping inversion
Szymon P. Malinowski,H. Gerber,I. Jen-La Plante,M. K. Kopec,Wojciech Kumala,K. Nurowska,Patrick Y. Chuang,Djamal Khelif,Krzysztof E. Haman +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, an algorithmic division of the cloud-top region into layers is proposed, based on high spatial resolution measurements of temperature and liquid water content, accompanied by moderate-resolution measurements of humidity and turbulence, collected during the Physics of Stratocumulus Top experiment are analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A New Ultrafast Thermometer for Airborne Measurements in Clouds
TL;DR: In this article, a rotatable vane behind a thin rod aimed at protecting it against the impact of cloud droplets is described, which according to limited experience gathered until now seems to be sufficiently effective as an antiwetting protection for the speeds of motorgliders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two New Types of Ultrafast Aircraft Thermometer
TL;DR: In this paper, a new version of an ultrafast aircraft resistance thermometer (UFT-F) with a time constant of the order 10−4 s, for use in both cloudy and cloudless air, is described.
