Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of cholesterol crystals on plaques and intima in arteries of patients with acute coronary and cerebrovascular syndromes.
TL;DR: By avoiding ethanol in tissue preparation, CCs perforating the intima were shown to be associated with PD, and crystal content was significantly associated with clinical events, suggesting that cholesterol crystallization may have a role in PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Noninvasive detection and localization of vulnerable plaque and arterial thrombosis with computed tomography angiography/positron emission tomography.
TL;DR: The findings in this animal model of atherosclerotic plaques with high macrophage density showed that CTA/positron emission tomography can be used to identify and localize inflamed plaques and thrombosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plaque Rupture and Thrombosis Are Reduced by Lowering Cholesterol Levels and Crystallization With Ezetimibe and Are Correlated With Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography
Roshan Patel,Abed Janoudi,Ameeth Vedre,Kusai Aziz,Umesh Tamhane,Jack Rubinstein,Oliver G. Abela,Kevin Berger,George S. Abela +8 more
TL;DR: Lowering cholesterol levels with ezetimibe reduced plaque burden, crystallization, and inflammation, preventing plaque disruption and thrombosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arterial wall cholesterol content is a predictor of development and severity of arterial thrombosis
TL;DR: Arterial wall cholesterol was strongly correlated to serum cholesterol and thrombosis severity, and Serum cholesterol, arterial wallolesterol andThrombus surface area were all integrally related.
