Results of the eruptive column model inter-comparison study
Antonio Costa,Antonio Costa,Yujiro Suzuki,Matteo Cerminara,B. J. Devenish,T. Esposti Ongaro,Michael Herzog,A. R. Van Eaton,L. C. Denby,Marcus Bursik,M. de' Michieli Vitturi,S. L. Engwell,Augusto Neri,Sara Barsotti,Arnau Folch,Giovanni Macedonio,Frédéric Girault,Guillaume Carazzo,Steve Tait,Edouard Kaminski,Larry G. Mastin,Mark J. Woodhouse,Jeremy C. Phillips,Andrew J. Hogg,Wim Degruyter,Costanza Bonadonna +25 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare and evaluate one-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical models of volcanic eruption columns in a set of different inter-comparison exercises, and conclude that there is a need to more accurately quantify entrainment rates, improve the representation of plume radius, and incorporate the effects of column instability in future versions of 1D volcanic plume models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inter-comparison of three-dimensional models of volcanic plumes
Yujiro Suzuki,Antonio Costa,Antonio Costa,Matteo Cerminara,T. Esposti Ongaro,Michael Herzog,A. R. Van Eaton,L. C. Denby +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed an inter-comparison study of three-dimensional models of volcanic plumes and identified key features of weak and strong plumes, including the roles of jet stability, entrainment efficiency, and particle non-equilibrium.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Leeds Africa Climate Hackathon – experiences of running a hackathon and highlights of results
J. B. Crook,John H. Marsham,Rory G. J. Fitzpatrick,Jeffrey N. A. Aryee,Michael Baidu,Jessica C. A. Baker,Samuel S. Bland,Sarah Chapman,L. C. Denby,Andrew Hartley,Eszter Kovacs,Timothy See-Yiu Lam,Fran Morris,A. M. Mwanthi,Laura Owen,S. Peatman,Ben Pickering,Geoffrey Sabiiti,Caroline M. Wainwright,Tom Webb,Edmund I. Yamba,Eric Koka Bani,Kingsley Kwako Amoako,Willis Ochieng +23 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the extent and intensity of mesoscale snowfall in the United Kingdom was forecast. But the forecast was limited to a single day and only for the UK.
Kilometer‐Scale Simulations of Trade‐Wind Cumulus Capture Processes of Mesoscale Organization
L. Saffin,Adrian Lock,Lorenzo Tomassini,Alan M. Blyth,Steven J. Böing,L. C. Denby,John H. Marsham +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors show that kilometer-scale simulations with the Met Office's Unified Model reproduce this increase in mesoscale organization and the process generating it, despite being much lower resolution.
Peer ReviewDOI
Comment on essd-2021-427
TL;DR: Schulz as mentioned in this paper presents an in-depth and well-written description of a very useful dataset of manual classifications of shallow cumulus clouds covering the EUREC4A campaign period.
